Proper toggle sprint?
I'd like to know if there's a way to make toggle sprint like it is in every other game: Tap shift whilst moving to enable sprint, it disables when you either press shift whilst still moving or when you stop moving. Right now all we have is auto sprint that can be turned off via keybind, so before you say "go to options", autosprint is not toggle sprint.

I don't think I'd use it, but it wouldn't be hard to write a simple AHK script for that.

I have no idea how modding works, so that's the best I could do.

Rigth out of curiosity, why do you want this?

I turn sprint on and leave it this way. It is to slow for me, could be faster.

I understand that autorun can be useful, but I just prefer it the other way around after getting used to other games. Especially when I'm around cliff ledges or whatever, I try to walk forward a little but autorun is on and it sends me flying.

Well if always turn on run mode, it took more time just to move an tiny distance to grab thing. Also it's less accurate when doing thing and can also lead to over step when doing some task.
I example set a personal storage in one small area. And the run mode always make the character jump further than it should be. So run mode should be like Minecraft when you reach a destination, went back to normal speed for lower pace.

I don't know about a keybind that leaves it on continuously, I just hold down my shift button when I want to sprint, and release it when I want to stop sprinting. I only sprint while I am holding it down.

I would do that, but this is one of those games that requires a lot of sprinting.

There are tons of games that neglect to consider we tendinitis sufferers by not including auto run.

Ark Survival Evolved comes to mind, a notoriously huge game world.

Edit: oh, something about how sprinting is turned on, eh? Nm then.

Have you tried Caps Lock? Press once, sprint everywhere, press again, walk everywhere.

That's exactly what the auto-sprint option already does, though, which is what they don't want.

Then I cannot imagine what else one could do, except make a custom keybind set where WASD is walking and the arrow (or other) keys are Shift+WASD.

And I don't recall the running in this game to be all that fast and prone to errors. Then again I use a controller, so I have finer control with sticks than Mouse and WASD.

It already works like you want, though? And options is not 'autosprint', it is "hold to sprint".

With it disabled, tapping shift toggles sprint, regardless whether you're moving or not.

Tap shift to stop sprinting. Tap it again to sprint.

It's not auto sprint. Where did you even get that phrase from?
