I have no idea how modding works, so that's the best I could do.
I turn sprint on and leave it this way. It is to slow for me, could be faster.
I example set a personal storage in one small area. And the run mode always make the character jump further than it should be. So run mode should be like Minecraft when you reach a destination, went back to normal speed for lower pace.
Ark Survival Evolved comes to mind, a notoriously huge game world.
Edit: oh, something about how sprinting is turned on, eh? Nm then.
And I don't recall the running in this game to be all that fast and prone to errors. Then again I use a controller, so I have finer control with sticks than Mouse and WASD.
With it disabled, tapping shift toggles sprint, regardless whether you're moving or not.
Tap shift to stop sprinting. Tap it again to sprint.
