Alternatively, go find a crashsite with heavy modular frames around it.
And I just went to the work bench. I could have sworn that when I first unlocked motors and some of the other advanced construction items the recipes were not showing up in the hand crafting bench so I had to build the factory building and just figured it was like that going forward.
Some other factory type games you can only build late game stuff in factories themselves. I don't know why but going to the bench shows a bunch of stuff that I can craft now that it wasn't originally letting me craft by hand. Like when I needed to make motors for refinery i went to hand craft and didn't see it there so put down assembler, hooked to power and made them on the spot real quick as didn't have production line up for them yet.
I might have had the only show affordable recipes checked?!? I just know when I checked the other day they weren't there and I could making all the other stuff in factories until I hit this road block.
Thanks though, I'll hand craft the first few.
Heavy modular frames are pretty much the very start of mid-game. You'll definitely hit the point where progression items can no longer be crafted by hand or looted from the world, but that's not until after you've unlocked every machine (and can automate the construction of all required components for all those machines if you desire)
That's where I got my heavy modular frames before I unlocked manufacturer building lol. Same with the explorer. I always go out on foot looking for crash sites before the explorer, just to have enough heavy frames when I'm ready to build manufacturers. I know it takes a lot less time to hand craft 10 heavy frames to start manufacturing more heavy frames, but I just like the exploration part I guess.
As far as OPs point goes, I agree with the idea that advancement should not be halted because the item needed for said advancement comes after the advancement. Though, in this case, those items can be hand crafted when needed to begin the advancement.
Advancement.
I was always under the assumption that the devs wanted players to avoid hand crafting items whenever possible, but in some cases you are better off, depending on whether or not you're willing to explore the map for higher tier items at crash sites.
Finding crash site is too much work for me so I just craft it.
But if you do this the weight of the headphone has no use anymore ;)
Want to make a constructor, you need reinforced plates which require an assembler.
Want to make an assembler, you need you need both those same plates, even more now, and rotors both of which need the assembler.
Smelter, used to make ingots, you need rods and wire, both products from ingots.
So you should be very familiar with this restriction already.
