Need Manufacturer in order to build Manufacturer!?!?!
In order to build a Manufacturer it says that I need 10 Heavy Modular Frames which I couldn't figure out how to make so I looked that up in the Codex and in order to build them I need to build them in the Manufacturer!?!

My advancement is completely halted in the game because I can't build them and thus have no means of advancement. In a tier based building system like this you should never require the parts a structure makes to be part of it's build cost except at the first tier with items you can also build by hand for this exact reason as progression gets dead locked.

You also needed cables to make constructors that make cables. How did you make it passed that part?

Handcraft your first ten to make your first manufacturer. It sucks, but you can do that easily enough.

Alternatively, go find a crashsite with heavy modular frames around it.

The cables I could craft by hand.

And I just went to the work bench. I could have sworn that when I first unlocked motors and some of the other advanced construction items the recipes were not showing up in the hand crafting bench so I had to build the factory building and just figured it was like that going forward.

Some other factory type games you can only build late game stuff in factories themselves. I don't know why but going to the bench shows a bunch of stuff that I can craft now that it wasn't originally letting me craft by hand. Like when I needed to make motors for refinery i went to hand craft and didn't see it there so put down assembler, hooked to power and made them on the spot real quick as didn't have production line up for them yet.

I might have had the only show affordable recipes checked?!? I just know when I checked the other day they weren't there and I could making all the other stuff in factories until I hit this road block.

Thanks though, I'll hand craft the first few.

Looted it all from crash sites. ;)

Heavy modular frames are pretty much the very start of mid-game. You'll definitely hit the point where progression items can no longer be crafted by hand or looted from the world, but that's not until after you've unlocked every machine (and can automate the construction of all required components for all those machines if you desire)

That's where I got my heavy modular frames before I unlocked manufacturer building lol. Same with the explorer. I always go out on foot looking for crash sites before the explorer, just to have enough heavy frames when I'm ready to build manufacturers. I know it takes a lot less time to hand craft 10 heavy frames to start manufacturing more heavy frames, but I just like the exploration part I guess.

As far as OPs point goes, I agree with the idea that advancement should not be halted because the item needed for said advancement comes after the advancement. Though, in this case, those items can be hand crafted when needed to begin the advancement.

Advancement.

I was always under the assumption that the devs wanted players to avoid hand crafting items whenever possible, but in some cases you are better off, depending on whether or not you're willing to explore the map for higher tier items at crash sites.

This is still the case with the space elevator parts, so you're not that far off in your assumption :)

Hey do you guy ever over make Space Elevator part? The first one? I kinda fill a whole storage XD. But glad that the ticket thingy exist so I could dump them all and get the ticket (30 of them for a 5/6 storage).

Those thing you said I just craft on the spot. Put a weight like a headphone on the mouse and let the craft begin while I get some drink or relax.
Finding crash site is too much work for me so I just craft it.

It happens, some of them gets used on next step though, so can be worth saving.

Free tip: Tap space and it just keeps going :)

Instead of putting a weight on the mouse button, you can just press space when handcrafting. It will then auto-craft until you press space again. :)

You can pretty much handcraft ANY basic recipe. Bout the only things you cannot handcraft are Project Assembly parts, any alt recipes, or anything dealing with liquids.

But if you do this the weight of the headphone has no use anymore ;)

A very odd complaint considering practically every step has been like this.
Want to make a constructor, you need reinforced plates which require an assembler.
Want to make an assembler, you need you need both those same plates, even more now, and rotors both of which need the assembler.
Smelter, used to make ingots, you need rods and wire, both products from ingots.

So you should be very familiar with this restriction already.
