I quit. I can't take the friggin' monsters attacking me anymore.
I am new to the game and trying to enjoy it but I can't deal with the constant attacks with little way to fight back or protect myself. I just keep getting killed and lose everything I worked hard to make. There really should be a way to stop the attacking especially when you are first learning how to do the basic things. Can't believe there is no option to turn off the attacks.

There are plenty ways to defend yourself in the game. There are even areas with all the resources you need to progress, without ever seeing a monster. Maby try a different area to start. Most enemys can be doged simply by jumping or running away.

I also had problems first.

But then I decided to not stroll far from my first factory away until I had better weapons. And with them I trained the methods to defend them.

And now, on my forth landig, I can even defeat the easy monsters with the first electrostick.

AND ... this is EA, maybe they implement something like peacefull later.

AND ... for now you can install a mod, which removes the monsters.

I was the same way, it gets easier. Also, once you start building on platforms, it's avoidable.

Have you tried pointing your xeno zapper towards the enemy and pressing the left mouse button? That's all you have to do.

Just jump onto a rock or something to avoid having the charging ones from hitting you. With the upgraded electro-stick thing, and the Blade Runner item that lets you jump higher, you can just jump up once as those guys charge and look down and use your stick twice real fast as they pass below you and they are dead straight away before you even hit the ground. If you build anything in the area they will never respawn either. You can jump up to avoid being hit by them even without the blade runner item though. But the larger variant of the charging monster requires the blade runner in order to jump high enough to get over them. These larger variants can be easily thwarted by just sitting behind a tree and running out from the tree to hit them and then quickly running back behind the tree.

The spitting monsters are more tricky, especially the bigger variants. If you can stay relatively close (but not too close) then they will only use a close range fire attack that you can, for the most part, step back from to avoid being hit. At greater distances though they will shoot exploding projectiles at you with great accuracy. Regardless of the attack they use they always have a few seconds of just running around between attacks, this is when you get real close to them and hit them. Alternatively if you can find a tree or rock to run around that works well too for avoiding their attacks.

You don't have to defend yourself in this game unless you're exploring new areas. The basic charging enemies are a complete non-factor unless you literally stand still. Strafing or jumping causes them to miss everything. Attacking them relentlessly also prevents them from attacking. Those are all you will see unless you are going to areas that are designed to be too dangerous right at the start of the game. Maybe the weakest tier of spitting aliens which you will kill if you just hold towards them and mash attack (but taking damage against them is inevitable with the starter weapon).

Generally you only need to engage in combat if you want to secure new mining nodes, though. Enemies never respawn near your factories, and you can get drop pods and slugs by just building walls around yourself or raising yourself off the ground. (You can also get drop pods by just opening them extremely quickly, though this doesn't work for slugs.)

- Having a basic tazer is sufficient to protect yourself against most things. Then just eat some scavenged food to restore health.

- Attacks cannot be constant, since creatures do not respawn near structures and until you leave the area for a while. The only way they can be constant is if you constantly running around without an effort to spot potential threats.

- Getting yourself killed doesn't mean you lose everything. All the inventory items can be picked at your death location and they will never despawn.

- You always have an option to load an autosave. It exist for a reason and there's no shame in doing so if something goes wrong for you.

Fighting feels very clunky at the beginning, definitly not a plus of this game. However once you get the hang of it, it'll really become a non-issue. Just two things to remember:
-when going on deep exploration sessions, make sure to have quite a lot of healing items (you'll find some almost everywhere), and research the inhaler in the M.A.M to help with that
-In my opinion, the biggest threat is the Alpha hog (the big one with horns) specifically in melee, as it'll take out two squares of health for each bite, depleting your health really fast if you're a bit wreckless and let him chain bite you. Tread carefully when you see one

The monsters run in a predictable pattern every time. All you have to do is combine jump with strafing (just like all other first person combat games) and then attack them when they run past, or move and you move in and attack them in between their attacks. If you've played any other first person combat game the same logic should be applied here. You can also use foundations and walls to create barriers to block their attacks or trap them in boxes. There are many many ways to make combat in this game incredibly easy to the point that it would be completely trivial / non-issue. You just need to use them.

Good riddance. Score one for the monsters.

/s

But seriously, in addition to what others have said, you eventually unlock "Hostile Organism Detection" for the Object Scanner doing M.A.M. research. You'll likely have better weapons by then, but you'll also have the ability to hear them coming and avoid them entirely.

Is OPs comment for real? Am not seeing any of this issue.

Just cheat, no one cares.

I cant believe people buy an EA, Early Access game and expect all the options and everything to be perfect for there specific game play style, its such a strange thing that the universe does not revolve around these folk, about as logical as a FlatEarther.....

Maybe the OP is physically disabled (they haven't said, and don't need to) and cannot react in time to the monsters...And no I am not being mean! Able bodied people forget people with disabilities like to play games to!

There is a mod you can use called Passive Mode, which will remove those hostiles. Allowing you to explore and build at your leisure!
piddlefoot Oct 5, 2020 @ 8:24am
Well your assuming a lot to make that convoluted presumptive attack.

That same person, knowing they are disabled, probably should not have bought an EA game....
Im disabled.
So that excuse doesnt wash with me sorry.

Maybe other people trying to make up excuses for others is, well, pathetic.
Political correctness gone stupid basically.
