I tested with an early backup of my "GameData.dat" (before completing Route A). The original Title Screen returns. This file resides with the game saves. I just tested that after I deleted the file, a new GameData.dat was recreated (I am hoping that it was not retrieved from SteamCloud).
You will find this file in:
C:\Users\YourName\Documents\my games\NieR_Automata\
Before you do anything, make sure that you backup the files in the folder listed above.
So what you're saying is that I am to (backup my current save data) delete my save file from within the game, start a new game and extract the .dat from this? Does that retain the original title screen after I bring back my backed up save data?
Feel free to message me if it's a bit complicated to answer in a short post here
GameData.dat stores general playing statistics and stuff not tied to specific save slots. That file also happens to store which main menu background the game is currently using.
Removing that file will reset the main menu background, along with some other stuff that's tracked by the game through said file.
The save slots themselves will remain unaffected.
Ah okay, I see. Thank you for explaining
