So, I think we have a pretty good indication that '♥♥♥♥' isn't the word intended.

9S's fetish was revealed in NieR Theatrical Orchestra 12020. (see video below)

+ In English, a hidden word = a censor = a 'bad' word. Coupled with the fact that everyone has naughty thoughts about 2B, it's easy for English speakers to immediately take that line as a sexual one. The fact that it's just one single sentence on the screen makes it seem like something that was meant to jump out as us like a punchline—like Yoko Taro is talking to the player.

This isn't the case in Japanese however. Words being blocked out does not equal inappropriateness; it simply means they are hidden, which was the intention of this line. The way it was presented made it seem like a poignant note; that it was an important revelation meant to provoke deep thought rather than a clever meta joke. I've watched a few Japanese let's plays, and not a single person—despite all of them having drooled over 2B for pretty much the entirety of the game—ever thought that it meant anything sexual. In fact, the word 壊す (destroy/break) was the almost unanimous interpretation (one guy even smoothly read it as "You're thinking about how you want to destroy 2B, don't you?" before going "Wait what??" at what he assumed was the correct word. None of the comments on that video assumed otherwise either).

I think it's more interesting if there is not a definitive answer, and I'll argue that it the intent was for the sentence to be unambiguious, there would not be this censoring in the first place.

Yoko Taro wants us to ask ourselves interesting questions, after all.

In any case, 4 stars is a known codifier for "a censored word of unspecified length", afaik. There's also the possibility of mistranslation (which would be unsurprising in this case). The word itself is likely as ambiguous as 9S's feelings towards 2B. Characters in this game are complicated!

Unless you consider Phif's message above: 6 stars in French. The 4 star thing is probably a cultural "convention," and one I've never heard of before.

I always considered this open to interpretation, but haven't been in the mood to watch the video posted above. Either interpretation seems fair to me, regardless.

This is one of the moments that player experience is so important in Nier Automata. We do not have to have answer for everything. While discussing about it is fun, ultimately there is no defined answer to that. Just like to one question people been asking themselves since beginning of our consciousness: What is the meaning of life?

There would be censoring because the MAJORITY of JRPGs don´t have the F word in in. Jesus Christ what a childish debate.

I just assume this word has multiple way to understand for deeper meaning, after all this word may reflect the complexity of a character in one word, which is a hard thing to do in literature or movie (But actually happen a lot in poem, especially Japanese and Vietnamese poems)

Well clearly you either didn't pay enough attention to the story or you're not familiar with how Yoko Taro's games are if you're so sure it means one thing and nothing else.

And even if we put what I just said aside, it just doesn't fit the situation. Like, Adam is over there talking about hatred and other dark emotions within 9S's heart and the meaning of life and stuff, and then all of a sudden "Oh, by the way, you want to bang your cold-hearted girlfriend, ain't that right?"

Yeah, just suddenly talking about sex in a middle of a semi-philosophical speech definetely makes any sense at all. /s

Besides, if you did a sidequest called "Jackass' Research", you know that violence is basically what gives androids pleasure. See the obvious connection here?

In that case, the censored word may very well mean both "f**k" and "kill". I mean, we're talking about Yoko Taro, after all. The madlad never makes things easy.
