Main character design?
Ok guys, I haven´t played the game yet and I am kinda interested because of all the praise it gets (and the soundtrack), BUT is there a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason why 2B has this outfit? Like does it have any purpose in the story or the world? It´s really off putting for me because I hate these kinky anime girls in maid outfits.

The reason is Yoko Taro likes girls. That's it, and i'm not even joking.
Anyway, it's not really a "kinky" outfit, it isn't even as weird or exposing as some regular outfits in other way more japanese anime games, and the sexualization is something people overblown a lot due to fanart, in the game there's pretty much none unless you intentionally move the camera looking for it.

Her default outfit is fine just don't remove the dress.

Not only does the outfit has story reasons, those reasons also correlate to the real world. But that might require some piecing together, which not everyone is willing to give time for. Giving away the answers would be a spoiler in any case.

Came to say that, see that it's already posted, nothing more to say

Yes, the MC outfit matches the themes of the game. No, it won't be explicitly described why she wears these clothes. The idea is to make you think about the differences between an android, aka an artifical human, and a doll, aka a human-shaped object. Why are they created? Why are they human-like? What does it means about their creators? What does it means about humans in general?

That, and as have been said, Yoko Taro like girls. Point is, you can be aware of your human desires, and still think about what they are, and why they are. Yes, the game is sexualized. But it is a reflect of both what the androids are, and the videogame market as it is. So it has meaning both in-game and as a commentary.

Suffice to say, the sheer amounf of topics like this one shows this commentary is right on the mark.

Your interpretation of the reason is completely wrong, as other YoRHa units wear similar dresses and use her same body type, and are not what you said in your spoiler.
Also, i'd avoid putting such a big spoiler just to explain a dress...even if you did use spoiler tags one might think it's something minor and read it anyway ending up readin one of the major main plot twists of the game.

Well, I think you are kinda right. But a spoiler can be minor or major, so the reader must take discretion. Anyway I delete my replie. But I don't think this game had big plot twists. If you observe and analyze while you go through the plot, you will be able to see where it is going to go. And honestly, that is one of the things that I love from this game.

Strenght of Nier Automata is not a super duper extra ultimate plottwist or story spinoff. It's the character development, player experience and tons of information given in other forms and outside of the game(or information revelead really really late in the story, read project gestalt for example)

Tfw you go to Artwork section and instead of genuinely impressive game-related art you see a bunch of oversexualized cosplays. Really makes you think, doesn't it?

The 2B design has a Gothic fashion taste.
It is based on medieval European fashion.
So, the character design of this game has nothing to do with kinky anime.

If 2B is a kinky anime, then medieval Europe is the world of kinky anime. LOL

We too, anyway best answer.

Also I believe this thread is just a clickbait so let's this die. 2B/Nier Automata is already very popular out there for years the reason we already know... but for the plot too so there is no sense someone came here to talk bad or judge her outfit today.

Wrong analogy

There can be hentai based on medieval Europe but it is still hentai.
2B design could be based on what you wrote but that does not change the fact that this is combat unit in high heels in short dress with giant swords(weapons)
