Just bought, won't launch
Bought the game, installed it, and when I launch the game nothing opens, just an idle NieRAutomata.exe. I waited up to 10 minutes and the game .exe just sits there. I have tried running the directx redist manually, reinstalling, running the .exe in admin from Explorer, have verfied the files. Even tried running it from my SSD as well as my HDD. The game will not launch. Google is no help as all the common fixes are not working. I will not download the game again as I am on metered internet and downloading the game twice has already consumed nearly 100gb of my metered net.

AMD FX-6300@4.3ghz, 16GB ram, GTX 970.

Confirm that you're not using FAR, then revalidate the game cache through Steam and try and launch it again.

Alsl, what are your specs?

Guess I just needed FAR, silly. But now the game screen freezes on first boss, I can still hear the game working but it is stuck on a single frame.. This game is silly!!!

Someone shouldn't be forced to use a user made tool because they are too lazy to patch the game.

Wait, did using FAR actually solve it for you? I would assume that's just the placebo effect talking.

What the game does before it actually shows up on-screen is all Denuvo related stuff. If Denuvo can't establish a connection to their servers over the Internet to get a key for the game tailored for your hardware then it'll remain in the background until it times out (which apparently can take a long time). It's possible that your Internet connection was simply more stable when you launched the game after having installed FAR, which consequently solved the issue with Denuvo.

If that's the case then you should be able to rename dxgi.dll in the game folder to dxgi_disabled.dll and launch the game just fine. That would be a clear proof of the issue being with Denuvo all the time and that FAR didn't really solve anything in regards to that issue.

Huh? I believe you might've misread my post. I specifically said that he should confirm that he's not using FAR to ensure that it weren't causing the issue.

If your comment is a generic comment on the state of the game then that's fine, but it doesn't really belong in a troubleshooting thread like this. There's already more than enough threads where you can (and probably have?) made that opinion public.

Yes, I tried all the common tricks that google suggested, I didnt want to install FAR at first cause i didn't think that would make the game suddenly launch. Before installing FAR, NieRAutomata.exe would just sit there doing absolutely nothing.

I installed FAR then suddenly the game worked instantly. But the game did get stuck on a single frame about 30-40 minutes into my first play. I could still hear sounds from controller input, but the screen was frozen.

As you inquired, I renamed to dxgi_disabled.dll and the game still launched. So it is definitely coincidental that installing FAR made my game work after 90 mins of troubleshooting. Not sure what defines a stable internet, I always get my advertised speeds, but I never had internet problems in the past.

Denuvo is such a pain in the ass....
