Clothing Not Getting Damaged?

hello i was reading up on the dress module to see what it does and people were saying it prevents clothing from getting damaged but i have been playing this game for 8 hours now and i havent seen any clothing piece being damaged

Hold down both analog sticks to self-explode and destroy your clothes.

I assume the guy means that he has never seen any clothes be destroyed in his 8 hours of play, so he doesn't understand what "clothes destruction" the Dress Module prevents since he haven't seen any to begin with.

I didn't even realize you could destroy pieces of the clothes until I bought the Dress Module myself. I understand that the Internet and community is all over that little fact, but it really isn't mentioned in the game and you only notice it if you actually know about the self-explosion ability and uses it.
