No.
The only remotely similar mechanic in this game is you'll find other player's dead bodies which you can either recover and get a small part of their items from, or recruit as short term AI based sidekicks.

literally not even a little

On a technical level there is no other game that comes to mind with more number of combat/gameplay variations.

That's a huge exaggeration.
It's more varied than most games of the same genre, but not that much more.

Bayonetta games are pretty similar, just the defining difference being that Bayonetta is linear while Nier Automata is open-world.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the changes in gameplay/genre variatoons like switching from a 3D hack'n'slash to a 2D run'n'gun to a dual stick bulethell minigame to a vertical/horizontal shooter etc, and none of that is present in Bayonetta.

All of it except the dual-stick bullethell is though.

I'd disagree with that. It's far more of an action rpg/action adventure game than something like Bayonetta that's pure action. There's sidequests, minigames of sorts almost like in a Zelda game (pretty sure Taro cited Ocarina of Time as inspiration) and a significant customization aspect to NA you don't find in other Platinum titles except Astral Chain which itself deviates from the pure hack n slash formula quite a bit. There's also a huge meta element to NA where the game messes around with the relationship between the player and the game, so in that way it kinda resembles a Kojima game but it's definitely nothing like Death Stranding, thankfully.

Yes, it is. Considering Death Stranding was first strand type game and Nier Automata was released years before it.
It all makes sense

yes, nier automata is a remake of super mario brothers 64 for the super nintendo, which was infact the first strand type game.

Yeah. I wasn't able to find an exact word to categorize it without giving it away. I understand the confusion.
