Physical Location of Save Game Data on PC Linux
Would someone be able to tell me where the save game data is written to on Linux Mint, so the other post telling me to look on my C: drive doesn't help, lol. I want to copy my game save files to my laptop (also running Linux) so I can continue playing while I'm visiting relatives for Thanksgiving.

BTW, before anyone asks, the game runs fine for me on Linux :-)

Based on the PCGW article[pcgamingwiki.com], they can be found in a subfolder under:

<Steam-folder>/steamapps/compatdata/524220/pfx/

I don't have Linux myself, but I would assume the full path is something like <Steam-folder>/steamapps/compatdata/524220/pfx/Documents/My Games/NieR_Automata

Thanks, but I got as far as .../pfx/ then came to a roadblock. Under /pfx/ there's /dosdevices/ and /drive_c/. I looked around in these but couldn't pick up the path to keep digging.

What would the actual filenames be? If I'm close to the correct parent directory, maybe I can just grep them...

Oh, okay. Following the normal Windows folder structure would land them under:

<Steam-folder>/steamapps/compatdata/524220/pfx/drive_c/Users/<username>/Documents/My Games/NieR_Automata

The actual filenames are as such:

  • SlotData_0.dat, SlotData_1.dat, SlotData_2.dat - Stores save slot data for slot 1-3.
  • GameData.dat - Stores general game progression, most obviously the main menu background.
  • SystemData.dat - Stores graphics settings.
  • Graphic.ini - Stores output GPU and monitor (pretty much useless).

Note that SlotData_#.dat, GameData.dat, and SystemData.dat is encoded with the SteamID of the user, and the game only reads files matching the player's SteamID. If you intend to use the saves with another Steam user you'll have to update the encoded SteamID64 to the right one using either this[github.com] or this tool[github.com].

Got 'em! Thanks :-)

I use the same Steam user account on my desktop and my laptop, so it should work, right?

BTW, for my own future reference, the path on my machine is:

/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/524220/pfx/drive_c/Users/steamuser/My_Documents/My_Games/NieR_Automata/

Knowing this will prolly help me with all my other Steam games, too :-)

Yeah, if its the same Steam account then the files should be copy/pasta-able.

Don't you use Steam Cloud by the way? I thought that was supposed to sync the files over automatically between devices.

Although I'd still recommend manual backups as well :)

Nah. I guess I should join the 21st century and start using the cloud, eh :-p

For me it is
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1176470/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/TerraInvicta/Saves
