Is there any benefit to higher difficulty?
I've played a small amount of this game so far and like it, but I'm getting a fair bit tired of getting smacked down to 3HP whenever a robot brushes dirt off my shoulder

Aside from any possible achievements, is there any benefit to doing this on a harder setting?

Nope. There is not even an achievement for playing on higher difficulty.
There is zero difference between EASY and VERY HARD , game content wise.
Nothing in the game is influenced by difficulty.
The only thing it changes is enemy HP and how hard they hit.

So its purely a personal preference.

IMHO both the level and the difficulty system would’ve benefitted a lot from a month or two more in development. The difficulty scale have almost no meaning beyond whether you die in 1 hit or 2-3 hits, and for some reason shoot ’em up enemies scale to your level while regular mobs don’t, making the difference in damage you take between those types of sections stupidly high.

I would’ve preferred it if they fixed the level scaling and redid how the difficulty levels worked entirely. ’Very Hard’ should’ve been about something else then 1-hit KO and ’Iron Mode’ (permadeath) should’ve been available as a toggle.

I totally agree, a more refined difficulty setting were a huge improvement. I miss something between Normal and Hard. A mode which lets you take about five hits and doesn't have a lock-on for pods would be a sweet spot between those two. Although I never considered playing it on Very Hard, I think a 1-hit difficulty still has its place for those who are into it.

You could just, not use the pod lock-on on normal?

That is what I currently do, just to make it a little more different. However, I find myself hitting the lock-on button on accident every so often. Actually I could unbind this; thanks for giving me the thought!
Nevertheless, I'm missing that little edge in difficulty that keeps me on guard in addition. Of course there is Hard difficulty which I tried but as I indicated, this is just a little too stressfull.

The thing is, Hard makes the game realistic.

For example Engels should definitedly one-shot you with that arm swing. And on Normal you can take like, 3 hits. Is ridiculous.

Hard mode gets better, don't worry. Just wait until you get better chips. Chips in this game make a huge difference.

I dunno, I feel super imba x)) Once you have the dodging down the game becomes a lot easier. Like in all platinum games imo. But the addition of the plugin chips totally busts the difficulty.

Freedom to have 99 large restorers bust the difficulty even more.

That´s why the prologue can be so annoying in Hard but you feel like a bad ass when you win. You win by pure skill.

There should be a limit to items and if you went over the limit you should be slower and more clumsy.
