Items where the description mentions that they're sold for cash are items that are never used elsewhere, and safe to sell.

Everything else depends on whether you have need of the items in an upgrade or such.

Depends, later on when you get lots of chips, I personally sell the ones with a higher number. Example, if you have Shockwave 1 (18) and Shockwave 1 (5), the 5 one require far less space. I'll admit, it took me way too long to figure that out xD ... like, second playthrough. Thought, numbers? Okay. Whatever.
So yeah, you probably already knew that but maybe someone reading this didn't pay attention like me.

Copper ore is practicly everywhere albeit of very little value so may not even be worth selling

Items also increase in value if you decide to play a second playthrough and I read that it further increases for a third playthrough. Pluss, seems like machine cores and random things such as ancient masks (around 10k I think they were?) become much more common. Or maybe the RNG gods have finally blessed me.
