'Unable to Initialize steam API' error

Anyone else had this when trying to start the game? If I manually open Steam and then open the game. there's no issue, but if I try to open the game's .exe file with Steam closed I receive that error.

This wasn't an thing until today (only recent changes were me changing mouse cursor and Global Illumination settings from within the FAR menu and playing an hour or so of the game) which is kinda weird.

The game requires Steam running, and have always done so. When Steam is closed you get that error message.

This is true for all games that doesn’t support launching Steam automatically on launch. Why some do and others don’t, I have no idea.

Just start Steam and then the game.

I was sure i had been launching the game from the shortcut until now. I suppose I may have: been doing it after having another game launch Steam, though

Idk but steam launched automatically for me when I start Nier. After that I just always keep Steam on

When I try to play Steam close and the game stop responding, then I still can hear the game, but the screen goes black and I have to turn off by the power button or press ctrl+alt+del and log off

I'm using FAR and the resolution problem is solved

Try to hit Alt+Enter a few times (wait a couple of seconds in between) to see if you can switch between fullscreen and window mode.

Actually my screen goes black when I change from windowed to fullscreen, and now FAR does not seem to work well
My screen is 1920x1800, the game accepts 1800x1600 only

I didn't think about it till now, but the fact i'm using Big Picture to use DS4 affect FAR?

When I use alt+Tab the game and its music continue, but the whole aplication stop (and keep responding at task manager)
