So, I died....
Played for just over an hour, was crossing a bridge and 2 rotary boss things attacked me. One came off screen, pummeled me, killed in one hit. Got the ending and now I'm back at the beginning. Did I miss a checkpoint or do I really need to do everything all over again? Does this happen often?

And which one is that? Before or after the guy that killed me?

You have to play through the entire prologue before you get to the first save point. After that, when you die you'll be able to just respawn at the last place you saved.

The buzzsaws literally cannot hurt you if you just keep dodging. Spam the dodge button when they get near you, wait until they stop moving to attack, and they're easy.

Alternately, you can lower the difficulty to easy until you get to the end of the prologue; you can change the difficulty at any time, and there's no benefit to playing on harder modes.

Are you playing on Hard or Very Hard? If so, that might be the cause. You can change the difficulty on the fly, so just switch to Normal or Easy till you get to the first save point - after that, you can save in the save stations around the world any time you like (but you still have to do it manually - there is no autosave and checkpoints are nonexistent for the most part).

The prologue is a difficulty benchmark so if it´s too hard just play on Normal. Playing on Hard gives NO benefits. No extra cutscenes, quests, nothing.

The item that decreases damage by 50% willl allow you to survive direct hits, and be used to it because you will use it a LOT.

There are no achievements tied to difficulty settings. So you can switch it to your hearts content. Prologue on hard mode means 1-2 hit deaths. So if you cant handle the mechanics just yet, just go for normal.

Lowered to normal, used the powerups, killed Goliath. Super intense, great prologue. Higher difficulty than I would've expected from a first level, but great nonetheless

I feel your pain, I tried started playing this on Hard for six hours until I ate some humble pie.

Don´t worry - finishing the prologue with a clean level 1 Hard start is VERY satisfying - you just need to learn the game more.

You can actually skip all fights in the prologue and run to the final boss in 60 sec.
Since all bossfights in this game are scripted, you don't really need to fight and level up, you will be fine.
Exarch_Alpha Sep 24, 2017 @ 12:29pm
Bad advice. Only enemies drop small chips and you need money. Besides higher level means better base damage and thus easier boss fights. That includes the first one in the prologue as well...

So kill everything in the factory. Too hard = decrease difficulty. That simple.
