Better FPS With The Far Mod??
I am at my wits end trying to get this game to run smoothly. I have a very powerful gaming Rig but this game just will not run smoothly. I have the FAR mod installed but it hasn't helped at all to be honest. Are there some settings in FAR i need to do that I haven't been able to figure out? Maybe some setting in the NVIDIA control panel? Cuz this is just ridiculous. I shouldn't drop to 22 FPS with the kind of rig I have. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated. I really wanna play this game but these constant drops and frustrating as hell. I already have the game on the lowest settings possible :-/

I see 3 reasons you're hitting low fps.
MSAAx8 from high preset: turn if off and play in DSR 4k instead.
You're playing in windowed mode? Play in fullscreen instead
You haven't limited your fps below 60? fps must be lower than 60 to override game engine limiter.

Hmm, some people mentioned in past that for some reason game tends to use integrated GPU instead of card GPU and usually you can set that in nvidia control panel.

EDIT:
Also don't bother using in game AA just have AO turned on since AO comes with post processing AA anyway.

It was ambient occlusion and AA that hit me the hardest. I can normally run a bit of AA without issue, but I believe nier uses a form of supersampling for the x4 or x8 setting which just annihilates my fps in my native resolution.

What are your specs?

First step is to always disable Anti-Aliasing (AO includes a faster AA filter anyway). Second step is to use FAR to lower Global Illumination to High.

I have global illumination to as low as possible and it still doesn't help. Also I have all AA AO and everything turned off

Then you're hitting another roadblock.

Again: What are your specs?

It's impossible for us to make a good evaluation without knowing those.

Third step is to lower resolution.

An overclocked 1070 with an I7-7700 @ 4.20GHz and 16gb of RAM

Lower Resolution? you mean not play in 1920 X 1080?

Check your CPU/GPU usage while playing the game. A 1070 should be able to run the game at 60 FPS 99% of the time.

How often do you hit 22 FPS? The game can have some stuttering when areas are being loaded into the game.

how do i check the usage? im not very computer smart. and if i do check the usage, what do i do? how do i make it...better?

A good tool is GPU-Z from techpowerup.
Launch it and go to sensors.
Launch the game, alt+enter to stay in window, launch a save.
Check if your gpu is working. gpu load should be at 100% and gpu clock should be at its max.

If possible make a screenshot of your gpu-z and post it here.

gpu load is only around 40% how do i make it higher?

Use Task Manager (search for it in Windows) and GPU-Z that Nidhögg mentioned, to monitor both your CPU and GPU usage while playing the game. You're particularly interested in seeing if any other process than NieRAutomata.exe takes up a ton of resources (easiest to see in Task Manager -> Details -> Sort by CPU in Descending order). And if something eats resources that isn't the game, well... Close it. >_<

CPU-wise, an application currently not in use shouldn't need more than ~5% of the available CPU usage on your 7700K. So if any non-gaming related process eats over 10% CPU power then that can easily affect the game and cause bottlenecks that could affects framerates.

You're bottlenecked somewhere else. Check the CPU usage as I mentioned in my previous post and ensure that the game have enough CPU power available to eat til its heart's content.

theres nothing eating up my CPU except System Idle Process which I assume is just my OS running? Cuz theres nothing else coming to close to using any CPU
