What to play similar?! Nier ruined purchasing games!
So I honestly loved this game, to where I am in a slump of what to play next.
Nothing is catching my eye and the animation of Nier automata just blew me away in terms of story via it's videos during gameplay.

What is next for me? What is similar that would bring me in like this?

I went through hundreds of games recommended like it and nothing caught my eye that wasn't samurai or pixel, as I enjoy hack n slash but it has to have good combat too, but the must is that video story line setup which always have drew me in.

I mean I liked I am setsuna but if there was FMV's it would have made the game for me but just couldn't play it long term keeping me drawn in by the combat.

Just a bad slump, anyone care to recommend?

-Bayonetta
-Enslaved
-Dragon Quest Heroes
-Prototype
-Toukiden 2

The only problem is that they are just like NIER

Yeah sadly that is not my cup of tea. I really like FMV's in games too which nier did amazing, like I said this game hit all the good spots for me and I'm struggling to find what to play.

Dragon quest is the only one I may play, the others just too plain in action it seems and the FMV's look terrible it has not story telling depth, don't take it the wrong way, Just I am REALLY into the story and the FMV's are what I play a ton of, it's also why I love metal gear solid.

I know I'm probably pissing everyone off who reads that comment just I am a story fan with good action which is hard to nail.

Why I also always liked Final fantasy games, Just I hate sticking to one specific title.

Maybe the 'Tales' games? Berseria seems solid so far. It's more RPGish and full anime, but has story and while combat is not open world (it's instance based), it's very solid and full real time as well.

Then again, there's absolutely nothing like Nier Automata. Not even the previous games in the series can compare in the whole mix.

great action + great story aren't one of those things that come around very often unfortunately.

I'd recommend Transistor, doesn't have any FMVs but its a great indie game with satisfying combat and great story + atmosphere.

Sadly I love FMV's :(
I looked into it a little may not be to my taste, and sorry again I know i'm unbelievably picky, Just I don't make much so I am trying to wisely decide.

I been thinking Tales, But... I have been on the fence about it.
Sorta reminds me of good old .hack for ps1 days as that was a great game too, Just need PC types! But will for sure look more into Tales series.

I'd recommend giving Blades of Time a try. I found it surprisingly fun. Great soundtrack (but you only get it if you buy the Limited Edition, you can't get it separately)

I also recommend playing it with the original Russian voices. Not that the English voices are bad, but the English actress for the main character sounds like she's doing Lara Croft, whereas the Russian has a certain snark in her voice that matches the attitude better.

Looking into it, seems crazy!
Also I very much so hate 99% of all american voice acting, as well... It seems none of them want feelings put into the game and match what they are acting, same goes with anime.

American voice actors just don't have the feeling put into their script it seems like original languages do for games/shows personally to me.

check out Enslaved. it has great story-telling (both main characters are fantastic) and descent combat. also, the world is quite similar to Nier (you also walk in old human cities in a future scenario with machines). it's certainly not a perfect game, but i loved it. :)

Enslaved and Prototype, for having finished them, are pretty bad games honestly. I really didn't enjoy them, especially Prototype.

The Legend of Heroes series.

Trails in the Sky FC and SC are already on Steam. Trails in the Sky 3rd is coming next. Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 are also coming. And Tokyo Xanadu.

Surprised no ones said Metal Gear Rising: REVENGEANCE yet. Same studio, same kinda feel and it gets ridiculously over the top, not to mention a top quality OST.

I vouch for Blades of Time as well. It's not as good as NieR:Automata lore wise, but the combat is pretty good and has some interesting mechanics.

Also, I would recommend this:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/368340/

Don't let the pixels fool you. The combat is very smooth and fun and the game has a great art. Give the demo a try.
