NieR:Automata™

I read that Emil (ch. 3) has the rare materials I need, but he doesn't.
I've been told fully upgrading all the weapons isn't a hassle. So far, I've found it is.

Right now I need...

pristine screw
machine arm
new bolt
sturdy socket
stretched coil

What do I have to do to make this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sell me the right parts? The inventor in the village didn't have what I needed either.

If I'm not mistaken Emil's inventory is based on his current location in the City Ruins. So if you e.g. attack him besides the desert he won't have the same items as if you attacked him besides the Engels (the massive machine you took down and later talk to).
I don't know in which chapter I saw him near the camp previously, but now he's always, always, always near the desert. Apparently, you can get him to appear there in 7-1, but I've read that the parts I need are in Route C.

Emil's location dictates his inventory. For most of those, you need him to spawn near the resistance camp.

There's a bunch of 'guides' out there on the issue, but generally, you first need to stop and shop with him on his desert route. During Chapter Select, you basically have to do this every time, since his 'internal clock' resets every time you jump chapters. At that point, it gets a bit weird. Or maybe frustrating is a better word. Basically, teleport to the Resistance Camp, go outside and check. If he's not there, teleport somewhere else and back. Repeat.

I've read some people say that the chances of him appearing at the resistance camp go up if you talk to him, then visit his house. I am unsure if this is true.

EDIT: If any of those items aren't at his resistance camp location, then you'll need to get his second factory route, and God help you there.

Yeah, there's a common bug where he never moves from near the desert entrance, and he doesn't sell those unless he's near the resistance camp.

This guide helped me fix it:

Emil has 4 versions of his shop. Two per route. The speed of his song dictates which shop he carries at the time.

Route 1. Near desert camp. His first shop usually has level 3 chips. His second shop here has materials. A few of these are rare finds so stock on these if you can.
Route 2. Resistance camp loop. His chip shop sells level 5s. His best shop (which you will know because his song is very fast now) sells the weapons and rare materials.

These are the shop types I've found so far.
If he is staying by the desert you have to talk to him at least once and he will tell you something about how he lives deep deep underground. After that if you leave and come back he will spawn in other locations.
Hmm, for me it's always been near resistance camp = weapons and near crater = materials. I had no idea shops varied by route, because there really don't seem to for me. o.O To get him to move his shop I just port somewhere outside City Ruins, then back to City Ruins.
Disclaimer - don't open spoilers if you haven't cleared route 3 once (neither C nor D end). I reference chapters by name there (don't have a save to go back to and check chapter numbers on hand).

Machine Arms (and other parts) are sold by Pascal in chapter "A2 goes to the tower". Otherwise, I farmed them reasonably fast by repeatedly clearing bottom floor of the castle (fast travel to Forest Castle - Royal Chamber -> drop down from the bridge -> farm right corridor).

Pristine Screw is, I believe, big walking robots - easily farmed in chapters with places where they keep spawning, like "2B calls for help" (end of A route, where you fight endless waves while going to Res camp), or the desert underground arena.

Stretched coil is quickly farmed in desert, it's those high stacked robots in the first area. They drop pretty much only that, so grab a couple drop+ chips and go to Desert - Camp.

New bolts I think I bought from Emil as well; wiki says amusement park machines.

Sturdy Socket, again, I mostly bought; wiki says Multi-Leg robots in bottom levels of Factory.

Tbh I had much much more issues with Pod materials. Pretty much had lv.1 pods throughout the entire first playthrough.

I've been having this problem. He's supposed to sell rare materials on the same inventory as fist weapons and dress module. I am looking at his shop with those items right now but no materials. I'm only on the second play through (9s) if that makes a difference.
This is dumb. I finally got him to show up by the resistance camp by using the guide linked above, but he only sold me chips. What is the point of making this so random? For now, I'm just gonna say screw it and do something else.
