Does item scanner chip have false positives?

I'm at the starter building when we first arrive at city ruins. I notice on certain levels, certain chest markers appear on the mini map but there is nothing in the building floors.

It may be one of the ones you need to jump to (you'll notice large holes in the walls on a couple levels—you can actually jump out of those and float to blocked off sections that are adjacent).

There's an item at one of them that gives you a hint that this is possible (since you can see it when you're looking at the building from the outside).

That building includes various unaccessible sections of it that you must jump out through a window on the front and along the wall of the building to get to.

So no, no false positives. You just haven't found them yet.

The issue with the scanner is that it doesn't only show items on a single floor, so said items might be on the floor above or below you.

The middle section I figured was a room with its doorway sealed off so had to jump out the building and float back into its window.
