Favorite OST?
I'm surprised this thread has not been posted yet (to the best of my knowledge).

What are your top three favorite OSTs? And Why?

My list:

War to War. It is most likely YoRHa's anthem.

A Beautiful Song. Theme of the Opera machine.

Bipolar Nightmare. Played through various times in the story. Some call it "A2's theme."

Bonus

This is not from NieR:Automata, but instead from NieR:Gestalt that I have always been obsessed with.

Shadowlord.

It has been posted plenty of times when the game came out. My fav ost is litteraly the first ost you hear in the game.

I get goosebumps when the violin comes after the piano.

Too many to count. There's a reason why I've spent hours organizing the English OST album correctly and even more hours downloading the 90+ track list from Soundcloud and organizing, renaming, and tweaking those as well, and even adding a track that I noticed where missing from it.

Instead of posting what tracks I like the most, let me instead mention a few versions of tracks that I am quite sad that the official OST doesn't include.

  1. :melohp: Birth of a Wish (This Cannot Continue - Vocals)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1RM8ECQe5g

  2. :melohp: The Sound of the End (Quiet, Instrumental)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UioSu2j8K1c

  3. :melohp: Possessed by Disease (Become God - Vocals)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ruk7G3r14I

If I had to pick a single track of all of them to select as "No. 1" then that would've to be :melohp: Weight of the World / The End of YoRHa. That track is just awesome with all three singers contributing to it and with its 8-bit music segment and ending E nostalgia. :melohp::melohp::melohp::melohp::melohp:

Oooookay. This is much more likely. I should have probably searched the forums a bit more. Pages in and I didn't find threads on the OSTs. Felt very odd.

Does anyone have any thread links for the thread about the OST?

Song of the Ancient, Atonement ... Love the Devola version from 1st Nier too... Emil's Shop is great too, remind me of Rufus Welcoming from FF7.

Huh? I was talking about the number of tracks I loved from the OST. We have had a few threads about the OST now and then but most of them are about where it can be obtained and not really about the tracks themselves. There haven't been a major thread either way that gained traction for longer than a day.

Sadly too few seem to discuss the OST.

OoooooooooooooHHH. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Okay, then this thread has somewhat of a purpose to exist. I shoudl have asked as to why people feel they love a certain OST. So why do you guys like the OST you guys chose?

Love the vocals in Possessed by Disease as well as how the song builds up. It's a shame that the song only plays once in the entire game when other songs get repeated again and again.

I can understand those discussions, I've been desperately trying to buy the CD, but SE's merch site sucks and imported japanese discs cost too much.

It's an amazing OST, tho. Most great themes are quoted by other tracks, and harmonic progressions are kept pretty familiar one with each other creating a sense of continuity, envoloping the whole game world, contextually broken by some great "sui generis" moments like Copied City and the tribal trance tune in the Tekken-like double boss-fight.
I think they found some of the best ways to build boss fight themes without the epic-generic kind of vibe and still not stealing the thunder from the gameplay.

But my favorite track is actually from a quiet moment, "Voice of no return", it plays after some of the most melancholic sidequests. I absolutely love the cello seconding the voice, singing in a very unique mimicked french. Soothing yet pretty simple harmony, it gets to me in a weird way. The first time I heard it, I literally spent 15 minutes in the resistence camp, unable to let this tune go.

Vague Hope (Cold Rain). It's the Grandma of Automata.
All the songs that came back from NieR made me fucking bawl my eyes out, and the Emil theme remixes were just...
That said, out of the tracks that are original, my favourites are Adam and Eve's boss battle, Sound Of The End (quiet), Mourning, Birth of a Wish, The Colour of Depression, Blissful Death, Faltering Prayer, and Vague Hope (cold Rain), and of course, The [E]nd of YoRHa..
Though I absolutely adore all the music in this game. Truly fantastic, magical almost.

Oh, and OP? You get bonus points for mentioning Shadowlord. It is one of the most genius tracks in ANY game due to how it progresses and ends in its implementation... I mean, just hear this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nepIkbum2E8

Especially after ending A, that final stretch, where EVERYTHING is stripped away except the music box as the Shadowlord is broken inside just destroy me inside.
