Questions regarding project yorha
So I just finished the game and got the 4 main endings however i'm still sorta confused about why project yorha was created. If the human genome is being stored on the moon but it isn't possible to revive humans, then what is the point of continuing the cyle of killing? Is it literally only because if the androids find out that humans don't exist than they will go into some sort of depression and lose purpose in life? Besides, the commander and some other androids know that the humans don't exist and they seem to be completely fine. Wouldn't it just be beneficial to have the androids wipe out the machines and create a life for themselves considering they've developed their own conciousness and everything?

Also, I probably missed this, but was project yorha created before or after the machines invaded the earth? The humans were wiped out before machines arrived but part of the purpose of project yorha is to fight off the machines so what were the androids doing during this gap between humans being extinct and machines arrving on earth?

Project YoRHa as we see in the game is actually the result of a madman. It was designed for YoRHa units to have something worth dying for in a never-ending circle of life and death.

They couldn't. Androids were losing the war effort (despite being actually unable to lose it). Project YoRHa was an experimental project of many that involved creating powerful cannon fodder using the corpses of their enemies.

Long after. Project YoRHa haven't even existed for 15 years at the time of NieR:Automata. I believe Projecy YoRHa was only active for about 6 years.

Fighting the Aliens and Machines. Project YoRHa was only a part of the 14th Machine War, which spanned 6 years and ended at Ending E.

I highly recommend you read the concert scripts[mintychu.dreamwidth.org] and the timeline[nier2.com] if you want to know more.

It's a good question, I brought this up a while ago. The concert scripts have suggested the YoRHa project in the story was actually not what it was intended to be. Concert script 2 states it was corrupted and placed into a never ending cycle by 9S's former model years ago, a model named "No. 9." Unfortunately, the credibility of the concert scripts as canon sources is also questionable because it contradicts the content in the story and what Yoko Taro has explained in his interviews.

This thread might provide some insight to your question.
