There is absolutely no benefit of using a mouse wheel for strafe jumping in this regard. Assuming you play with the usual WASD setup, I hardly see how using a mouse wheel could beat using your thumb on the space bar.
I'll change my input setup If I can't find a solution, hoping someone had the same problem and found a fix though.
EDIT: NVM this just made me realise my mousewheel is actually broken.
(EDIT) Gleb, my dude thank you so much this worked for me.
Sean, autojumping is/was considered cheating in kz / bhop and the game in general (css and 1.6) There were autojumping scripts around and possible on custom servers, but I've learned to just time it correctly and that's ingrained in my general movement now.. but ye, I'll be changing it up If i don't find a fix for it. It'll make my movement a lot more nooby though and since movement is a big part of what makes this game tick its kind of a waste.
I think that the "hold jump before landing" is fine. Especially in Quake where there is still so much more into jumping like by delaying the jump you can improve the steering of your next jump. Dusk has extremely simplistic "physics" so its like whatever.
Second it takes quite a while to get the scroll timing down to be good at bhop maps (and in constant bunnyhopping in general) so it DOES require getting timing down. But yes, if you were to use space-bar it'd be more difficult to time correctly, that doesn't mean however that scrolling doesn't require correct timing.
Anyway don't know why you feel the need to go this offtopic about the subject, did you use autohopping script on source?
(EDIT) I should add thought that I am talking from a 1.6 perspective, source is a wonky engine and css is a wonky ass game
