Jumping with the mousewheel buggy (FIXED)

================================================
(EDIT) this problem has been fixed by locking the FPS to <100
================================================

Loving the game, unfortunately having a problem with using the mousewheel to jump though.

Jumping wont reliably respond to the first scroll-tick, it generally needs a full swing of the scroll wheel to finally register it as a key input during gameplay. When standing completely still it will generally respond to the first scroll-tick, but it's way to wonky on consecutive jumps and for reliable use during movement and action.

Am I the only one with the problem? Am I the only trying to use wheel to jump? Couldn't really find info on this, would love to hear if people found a solution.

Why would you use a wheel at all? If you press and hold the jump button while in midair your character will jump as soon as you hit the ground.

There is absolutely no benefit of using a mouse wheel for strafe jumping in this regard. Assuming you play with the usual WASD setup, I hardly see how using a mouse wheel could beat using your thumb on the space bar.

I'm not seeking a benefit by using mousewheel, its simply what I'm very used to.
I'll change my input setup If I can't find a solution, hoping someone had the same problem and found a fix though.

It's indeed odd. In that case ill go see how it behaves on my end.

Well. Yeah does the same on my end. This is probably not your mouse pulling tricks on you.

EDIT: NVM this just made me realise my mousewheel is actually broken.

Try locking your fps on 100 or lower

Thanks for the tip Gleb, I'll try it later.

(EDIT) Gleb, my dude thank you so much this worked for me.

Sean, autojumping is/was considered cheating in kz / bhop and the game in general (css and 1.6) There were autojumping scripts around and possible on custom servers, but I've learned to just time it correctly and that's ingrained in my general movement now.. but ye, I'll be changing it up If i don't find a fix for it. It'll make my movement a lot more nooby though and since movement is a big part of what makes this game tick its kind of a waste.

I was never really into Quake but I was always under the impression that the top skilled players used manual timed jumps as well on there(back in the day anyway). You might be right about it being better in this game but for me to get really comfortable with a new input setup will take hours which I don't really wanna do right now, I just wanna check out the game.

the CS way is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because its too precise and just meant that majority of the people will do something like bind it to mousewheel to make it easier or just straight out use cheats, macros or mice with scrollwheels with continious scroll as an option... and on top of all that it would just not work if you got unlucky with the server ticks or something like that.

I think that the "hold jump before landing" is fine. Especially in Quake where there is still so much more into jumping like by delaying the jump you can improve the steering of your next jump. Dusk has extremely simplistic "physics" so its like whatever.

First of all its not dumb luck to time it correctly "on frame", if that were the case you wouldn't have good players who do it correctly 99-100% of the time, those are not just extremely lucky people lol.

Second it takes quite a while to get the scroll timing down to be good at bhop maps (and in constant bunnyhopping in general) so it DOES require getting timing down. But yes, if you were to use space-bar it'd be more difficult to time correctly, that doesn't mean however that scrolling doesn't require correct timing.

Anyway don't know why you feel the need to go this offtopic about the subject, did you use autohopping script on source?

(EDIT) I should add thought that I am talking from a 1.6 perspective, source is a wonky engine and css is a wonky ass game
