Have any of you guys played like Doom 2 mods/wads? Like the cacoaward winners and stuff? Quake level packs? Blood? D3D? Even stuff like Hard Reset and Project Warlock are just better at everything than DUSK.
This game is overrated on a scale I truly cannot comprehend.
Normally, I can understand what makes people like a game even if I can't stand it. For DUSK, I just don't get it. It's ugly, weapons feel/sound like ♥♥♥♥, enemies are horrible, AI is bad, the levels (first episode in particular) are some of the worst i've seen in a commercial product.
I love all the games you mentioned except Hard Reset(haven't played it yet). And I love DUSK too...they are all really good games imo
True, but if your average norman were capable of running it with a modern source port and played them both i'm sure they'd say Q1 is better.
Crazy, this forum is like the twilight zone. Well ok DUSKers, enjoy your game.
This game isn't even adjacent to Quake, it's closer to Half-Life and Blood than Quake, in fact it's not even comparable to anything that came out in the 90's because it's far too self-aware and masterfully designed.
This is a dumb thread, go play Daikatana if you want the "real Quake 2"
Ah.
k (im out, this forum is dumb, have fun being dumb)
Didn't dislike it so much going back to it later. At the least, like ROTT they tried working some details into enemy behaviour to make gameplay a bit more interesting without raising the difficulty. Quake 1 had more aesthetic variety going for it, but like Thief: The Dark Project compared to later works in that stripe Quake 1 made very good use of low-polygon, low-res and simple particle systems to suggest without always making it quite clear what the player is supposed to be looking at, and that's an excellent way to conjure a spirit of exploration if you can pull it off.
The point where you mentioned Project Warlock kind of sealed the deal though. Don't get me wrong; that game is impressive for the size and experience of the team that made it, but mentioning it as an example of something better than Dusk with a straight face, let alone including it in a list of classics, is a joke. I could go on about the why, but I don't feel like bashing another game on a discussion board. Not going to talk about Quake 2 either. I have a review of Project Warlock up on Steam; that's what reviews are for.
Anyway, good riddance.
Quake is such a muddied mess of a series, first we had Quake, and amazing, classic, revolutionary FPS game. Next was the mission packs that were already leaning heavy on the military side of things, but were still pretty good. Then Quake 2 came along and was so bland and generic that even Trent Reznor said it had no soul. Quake 3 was a fine multiplayer game, but shouldn't have even been in the franchise as it somehow had less to do with Quake than Quake 2. Quake 4 was a fine Quake 2 sequel, but was yet another fairly bland military FPS. Everyone remembers the Stroggification scene but that was really about the only thing Quake 4 did that Doom 3 or especially Prey didn't do with the format. QC has its own set of issues and further just muddies the franchise as a whole. What a mess.
