Ending explained?

I don't understand the ending. Why do you pale yourself?
You kill jacob and you beat one giant monster. Than the power is yours?
What is the ending??

You impale yourself to get to the guys. Jakob is the supposed cult leader, and so you kill him. It turns out he's just the puppet of the lovecraftian god Nyarlathotep, who is the guy that turned everyone into his cultists.You almost kill him, but he gives you godlike power to stop you from murderizing him. Unsurprisingly, he uses this to store you as a special agent that he can wake up when necessary.

Typically, elder beings like Nyarlothotep aren't really killable by ordinary humans.

Of course, lots of stories and games outside of bleak cosmic horror end up putting such creatures in, where their defeat often becomes genuinely impossible.

Enough that I genuinely didn't see it coming when the unkillable eldritch being was actually unkillable.
