And yes the last boss' name is clear copy from the Lovecraftian similiar how Quake had shub-niggurath.
Personally I interpreted as Duskdude being some sort of powerful "candidate" of sorts that ran away after some tramatic event, but came back to the town to confront his past sins. He gets ambushed and shanked in a murder basement, but candidates just don't die like that.
Jacob never explains things to you because its possible that you both know whats going on here. The player is the only one that's in the dark on a lot of things. Hell, with the way you fight, its possible that Duskdude was supposed to be a successor to Jacob, considering you both bunnyhop around like madmen and are weapons of mass destruction. The cultists turn on Jacob because they realize you're the superior candidate. There was no way you were going to beat mr cthulu monster over here (I forgot how to pronounce his name), the entire fight is just the cult's final test to see if you are worthy.
"Who you were before is insignifigant.
What you will become, is inconcievable."
I think in the pre-alpha to Episode 1's stage of development the idea according to David, was that you are a treasure hunter who heard that there was a bunch of treasure under the town of Dusk and you come for it only to be met by cultists and crazy lunatics trying to stop you. Now, this does seem to fit still, especially since the 'armor'/ morale pickups are still gems/gold/diamonds. Maybe morale implies that you're still going because there's more treasure to be had.
With Episode 3 it seems to imply a bit of a classic twist that you were probably being manipulated since before the game even started, but again that's just implication that can mean anything or mean nothing.
I personally think it's the former treasure hunter idea, but Dusk Dude just got kind of invested in what was happening and began to realize that if he's made it this far that he could stop whatever was going on.
He might have even been in the cult at one point but got cold feet and they decided to punish him for being a "nonbeliever", or perhaps he lived in Dusk and was dragged away from his home, meant to be brainwashed or sacrificed to the Infernal Machine.
Holy macaroni! I googled each voice actor from the credits and it appears that Stephan Weyte voiced Caleb from Blood!
Does Monolith still hold the rigths to Blood? Because it would be amazing if Dusk was a surprise sequel/prequel to Blood, kinda like what M. Night Shyamalan did with his "Split" movie.
Anyway, thank you for an awesome game, I am a huge fan of the original Blood (not the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sequel).
there are weapons all around the map, plus you probably entered the level with weapons. you likely just have them holstered. Press H, or switch to a weapon.
You can restart the level by pressing F1
