I won't play Scum ever if that is forced upon me!
If you want to repeat, and repeat and repeat the beginning of the game go right ahead.
You can do that now just delete that character when/if you die!
Just can't do it on a server unless you set it for like -$1 and the player never made a deposit at a atm!
I believe that you can disable both sector and shelter respawn, then set the permadeath threshhold to $2,147,483,646 (for a random spawn). This is not something I have done but, unless someone is really good at raising their bank balance I think the result would pretty much be permadeath upon dying.
Has anyone actually tried this? I would prefer not to lose my character by testing it at this point!
Sarah
There's a permadeath setting, but it's based on money. Run into the negative from dying too much and you can't respawn. Not a true one-and-done situation, though.
However, choosing **"reincarnate"** means you’ll be **reset**—you’ll return to the character skill selection screen. Once you click "reincarnate" or exit the server, all your data will be wiped. This mode might introduce many bugs, such as "unexplained deaths upon logging in," so it might not be suitable for the current state of the game.
Still, I hope this mode can be implemented someday. It would also emphasize the **importance of resources**.
Of course, there could still be ways to "save" yourself. For example:
1. You could use a **Phoenix Injector**.
2. You could pay a **huge cost** to save your **current BCU data** and attempt to restore it after reincarnation.
3. You could even **purchase someone else’s BCU chip data** to clone onto yourself.
But these methods would come at a **significant cost**. It wouldn’t be as simple as choosing "random respawn" to revive. I’m not sure if this explanation makes sense to the developers or the community.
Here’s the **complete process for replacing death**:
1. **You die.** You need to be revived, unless someone administers a **Phoenix Injector** on you.
2. **You die and reincarnate.** You find a chest you buried earlier, retrieve your recorded BCU chip, and have a doctor re-implant it (refreshing your skill levels).
3. **You kill someone and take their BCU chip.** Due to your high skill level, you use their chip data to overwrite your own.
Of course, if you want, you could also **sell this information**!

What's the point of this mode?
Who will play it?
I'm afraid only the author of the post will play this mode, and maybe a couple of his friends.
In essence, it's the same regular mode, only with a longer and useless respawn system, each time a new character is created, that's all.
There were some interesting videos posted by Luthias and Avenger over the summer where a permadeath, hardcore server with very low loot spawns was set up as a challenge. I think the concept was good and they seemed to have something of a following, including in their respective live streams. There were also a fairly large number of players on the server. The scenario seemed to unfold as mostly PVE with occasional PVP (I remember laughing when Luthias died to puppets after chasing Avenger in Spickovina). Base raiding was not allowed, and if you died and came back with a new character you could not retrieve your prior characters items (by a rule, not by the server).
I am not sure how the server was configured but it did seem to work very well to present a permadeath situation. Such a scenario is not really my thing to play but it was fun to watch players having a tough time surviving and constantly looking over their shoulders while they moved around the map.
I think that Jia.Wan is suggesting is that the option be formalised so that it is simpler to configure on servers, including the loss of all of your gear and items forever. He is a little unclear though, because in the first post it is suggested that you "start over completely" but in #7 he states, "You find a chest you buried earlier" and suggests that you could retrieve BCU data.
I guess it is a matter of defining exactly what "permadeath" means. To me it is that your character and everything about him/her is gone and you start again with absolutely nothing (like what Luthias / Avenger constructed).

My understanding of **permanent death** is this: You shouldn’t be able to respawn using **money**. If you die, you’re dead. There shouldn’t be three respawn options. It should simply show that you’ve died.
Here’s how you could start over:
1. **You can still be revived with a Phoenix Injector.**
2. **You can create a new character and retrieve items you saved earlier.**
3. **Skill records are saved in the BCU after "complete death."** If you’re willing to pay the price, you can buy or sell this BCU.
This means that if you’re not well-prepared, even your teammates could face **true permanent death**.
However, if you’re capable of stealing someone else’s BCU, you might gain access to powerful skills.
Of course, the BCU won’t **fully record all skills** upon death—there’s some loss. Think about it: How valuable is a BCU? On most servers, you’ll rarely see characters with **maxed-out skills**. Everyone would treasure their BCU. If you want, you could even store multiple BCUs. During combat, you might switch to a combat-focused BCU, while in normal times, you’d use a standard one.
**Death is death.** Skills are tied to the brain-chip interface (BCU). You shouldn’t be able to fully respawn using money. That’s just my opinion.
Of course, **permanent death should be a server setting**—a simple toggle. I strongly agree with this. It has its own use cases but shouldn’t be forced on everyone. Just like the "no damage" option, it’s a switch that can be turned on or off to create a unique gameplay experience that appeals to a specific audience.
