Put something other than a box in the medium storage box

Why did I buy this thing from trader when I can only put another box in it? What sense does it make to buy a box that you can only put another box into?

I don't know what more to post post about it. I put it on my boat and tried to put every item from my inventory in it. They would just show red squares and not go in. The only thing I could eventually get into it was a metal box. I had an admin of server give me a new one, I tried relogging, still only thing that goes in it is a box, which makes no sense to me.

Judging from the car racks i think it is planned to have all kinds of container you can fill (medkit, toolbox, backpacks, chests, fuel can and stuff) and put these on the rack. Since placing 100 cherrys on the rack doesnt make sense how would they be fixed.
Since the other vehicles for now just got the same inventory extension in the future those will likely differ and make more sense, so the box on the boat working like a box and the car rack on the roof working only with other containers "strapped" onto it.

Lol, not that helpful is it. Did notice there was a small patch yesterday. Maybe that did something, if not, fingers crossed and it'll be fixed next.

Indeed now you can carry even more stuff on your long journeys.
Small can contain any loot that fits inside.
Medium can fit one chest inside.
Big can fit 2 chests inside.

The boat can fit one chest plus the one in the rack, which is definitely more space than before if it's a metal chest.

The car rack takes two metal chests, given that you can stow around 5 or 6 in the Rager that's a significant extension too.

Now metal chests aren't so hard to craft once you find a lead plate and nails.
So it's not a bug but intentional.
