tin opener usless if you have a knife & how to fix it
hey guys & scum devs,

i really like the idea that every item in game is used in one or another way and some can react with each other.

but if you have a knife, the tin opener becomes useless, right? and i think there is no other use for the tin opener, except open cans. in my opinion this is only a little issue. and here is the idea to fix it:

lets say you find a can with 4 food units. at the moment you (mostly) use a knife to open your cans before eating.

how to fix: you get less food units from your cans if you use a knife !

example:

food can with 4 units - open with stone knife - get only 1 unit to eat
food can with 4 units - open with kitchen knife - get only 2 units to eat
food can with 4 units - open with battle knife - get only 3 units to eat
food can with 4 units - open with tin opener - get all 4 units to eat

food can with 2 units - open with tin opener - get 2 units to eat
food can with 2 units - open with any knife - get 1 unit to eat

food can with 1 units - not relevant which tool you use - ever get 1 unit

this is a way that the tin opener becomes a little more relevant in the game.

what do you think? please let me know!

thanks & cheers

Hmm. I don´t know, since it is entirely possible to open a can with a knife without wasting the content of it, but I also understand your point. One one hand I would like to agree ,but on the other hand that would mean we would have to waste 2 more slots of our inventory in order to not loose any precious food.
I would say yes, but they should change it so the can opener only uses one slot and then I would be totally for your suggestion =)

Cheers

Maybe remove the ability to open cans from the Wood spear.
But for real, you can open a can just with a "Street"
Means no tool at all.

So no, i am against it

True, but is more then likely that you will waste more liquid food types, like soups, beans and such if you open can with a "street" tool.

So, yes, for gamebalance reasons, +1 on OP. Already suggested same in some other thread.

The idea is not bad as for me, but i would apply it only for stone knives and other stuff like axes etc.

The only thing they need to do is make the can opener faster than using a knife/etc. I've opened cans in real life with a knife and it takes a lot more effort and time, but you aren't losing any contents. Make the can opener faster and call it a day. Although I'll still never carry a can opener because weight/space is more important than a few seconds of processing time.

+1
This is true. Most of people who where in the army can tell you that how much you loose when opening can depend on your skills... I saw people opening with can opener and spilling half of can... I also think that speed between opening with can opener and knife is only difference.
But I agree on portion reduction when stone tools are used.
