I would say yes, but they should change it so the can opener only uses one slot and then I would be totally for your suggestion =)

True, but is more then likely that you will waste more liquid food types, like soups, beans and such if you open can with a "street" tool.

This is true. Most of people who where in the army can tell you that how much you loose when opening can depend on your skills... I saw people opening with can opener and spilling half of can... I also think that speed between opening with can opener and knife is only difference.
But I agree on portion reduction when stone tools are used.
