If you haven't tried it yet, try restarting your router to see if it works as normal again. Also check if any applications or other devices or services could be affecting the performance (even if the tests show that everything is OK.)
Below are the ping times for US West servers from my location (Toronto, Canada):

The ping for me to SCUM Server Official #1 - US West on 6 September 2024 at 13:00 Eastern Standard Time was 82ms.
Deathwhisperer had some great suggestions; in addition, connection difficulties centered on excessive ping can be a result of:
Where you are located;
Use of a VPN;
Other programs (or other devices on your own home network) that are uploading or downloading large amounts of data (including streaming services being watched by others or yourself, especially at very high definition);
The maximum ping that's been established by the server's administrators;
Temporary internet connectivity issues caused by a failure in your ISP's backbone, between your ISP and the target server, or at the server end.
Is anyone you know in your area able to connect to SCUM Server Official #1 - US West? Your location in Vancouver should result in a ping lower than mine; the 82ms I'm experiencing shouldn't cause connection problems and yours should be about half that.

It is literally just this single server in the game that is an issue. No other servers that usually have good pings have issues joining (though I didn't really want to start a new character and lose my 5 year old one and lose all my advanced skills :( ).
No other game has an issue, router is reset and fine, nothing else using bandwidth.
Is it possible that when the IP for the server changed, my character got deleted? I do see another "copy" of the server on the list with a better ping, but when I try to join, it wants me to create a new character.
I can't possibly be the only person to encounter this? If so, lucky me LOL.
No other ideas?
You could also try deleting the "Saved" folder. As soon as I have other ideas I will write them.
To do this you just need to go to Appdata>Local>SCUM. Here you will find the "Saved" folder.
Before you delete this and if you want to keep single player saves, it is best to save the entire "SaveFiles" folder as a backup somewhere else on your PC.
The "SaveFiles" folder is in Appdata>Local>SCUM>Saved>
Once you have done that, delete the "Saved" folder as described above and start the game. This will recreate the folder completely and with the most recent date. Then try to connect to the server. Your MP characters are saved on the servers and will then be requested again when you connect.
If that doesn't work, you can also contact SCUM Support[scum.help.jagex.com] , in this way the developers can help you more directly.
