Fatal error crash Line 198

Game crashes within a minute of starting it up. I cannot find solution to the problem.

Hello :)

The first thing you can do is a Verification of your Local Game files via Steam Library . In most cases this helps to solve the problem. If that does not help, you also should check if all of your dirvers are up to date. :)

This sounds like a GPU driver issue. Make sure to update your GPU drivers and make sure that your PC isn't trying to run the game on an integrated GPU instead of your main one.

I am getting this problem constantly, I delete saved files, I verify integrity of files, I update all drivers, I have tried and used every solution out there and yet this game will still crash.

Sometimes I might get an hour or two of play time other times it will crash multiple times in a row after a few seconds of play.

I have a 1080 GTX
I7-7700k intel
Asus MB
32 RAM

In game graphics currently set to medium.

No solution on line has currently permanently worked to solve this issue

About the problem.

Are you getting the exact same error message? Are all drivers, not just the GPU, up to date and have you also run the Basic Troubleshooting and checked all the steps mentioned there?

Yes, I have updated everything, I even started a fresh restart on my pc.
The same Error everytime no matter what I try

Fatal error:[File unkown] [Line:198}
Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost.(error:0x887A0006-'HUNG')

Apologies for an inconvenience . however I do believe I have tried everything in the forums and online.

The error message itself indicates that there is a problem with the GPU. These problems can usually be solved quite easily unless there is hardware damage.

What I can definitely recommend is a complete clean reinstallation of the GPU drivers. This means that all previous remnants and drivers for the GPU are uninstalled and remnants are deleted manually (there are also tools that are very good at this) so that the latest driver can be installed cleanly.

You can also check the DirectX installation. There is help on the Microsoft homepage and also instructions.

C++ should also be up to date.

Does your PC happen to have an integrated GPU? If so you might try setting the game to run specifically on the 1080 in the nvidia settings.

The game is running on the 1080, I have set it to this through the Nvidia control panel on the 3D Settings

My friend with the greatest respect, I have done this and every single possible solution there is out there multiple times, I have deleted more files than hilary clinton!

Last night I played for 4 hours without a crash, perhaps because I turned off every single app on my pc, from discord to steam to everything... today I have the same setting, same apps turned off and I have deleted temp files and logs and everything else I can and I have crashed twice in 5 mins, I even crashed while loading into the game after crashing.

I have spent hours and hours over the last week changing and fixing things, I have done a complete reset of my pc and I have changed every setting suggested.

The only conclusion I have now is that it is something to do with the game. I have run many diagnostics and have tested every part of my pc, I have reset and updated, including clean installs of the GTX, and windows 10 and Direct X , nothing at all has permanently fixed this problem.. the same 198 line error etc everytime.

This happened last year too, when I played on a different hardcore server, the game kept crashing and crashing until one day it didn't after an update / hot-fix in the game.

This is absolutely depressing, I have read from other players how they crashed too, all with different pc builds, yet all the same error. and just this game crashes.

That is the reason behind asking that things are done to see what works and what does not.

I have never had a 198 crash that I can remember.

For a while, I can't remember when it started I too would crash for no reason. As I played it would crash more often.
I read, it might have been Deathwhisper that mentioned it to reverify my files. It worked.

So now with every update and every hot fix after I install it, I always go back and reverify the files. Guess what there's always 2-3 files that need to be repaired. I do it and no crashes.

I dunno sounds like you have done everything you can.

Can you please upload the "saved" folder located in Appdata>Local>SCUM and share the link with us here? This way the developers can check more data about the possible cause.

I think I have used enough of my free time to attempt to correct the problems I have experience with this game.

However should you still wish to have access to any of my intellectual property or any of my time to assist you with the problems within your game's advancement in the future I am sure that we can come to some arrangement.

There is no problem with saved folder or your GPU, I'm having the same issue with a RTX4070 on multiple accounts with multiple characters after upgrading from a 1080Ti I had the same error, this comes from bad optimization of some textures in the game, it happens to me most of time when I'm in or around player made buildings while building or in forests at night. Might come from foliage and some video effects. Anyway don't ask players for saved folders or anything, this bug is around for years and if the game was properly tested after updates it wouldn't be a problem. I'm moving to other games (Scum is the only one with GPU bugs since I updated my GPU)

It's not about "problems" in the saved folder but about the logs about what happened. The saved folder does not contain any personal data or other data, it records data for the game and also saves setting parameters for the game etc.

The question about the upload is therefore because the developers can better identify the exact cause using the logs.
