SCUM
Playing on GeForce NOW - are server settings client sided or..?
Hello.

I recently bought SCUM and I enjoy it a lot.
Unfortunately my PC can hardly run SCUM on lowest settings, so I had to go for GeForce NOW. I love it, however as a new player (and solo player) I wanted to tweak some of settings, like perhaps decrease mech's damage by 20% or something similar, maybe decrease puppet spawns or increase animal spawns, just until I get a good hang of this game, understand metabolism, crafting, looting, surviving aspects and start a new game with new character on default settings and perhaps even try multiplayer.

However since I'm playing on GeForce NOW, I'm not sure if settings are read from my side, or on their side. Like, game save is from my side, right? Game is being saved on my PC, not their servers or whatever? Can I tweak settings, or it won't do anything because I play on NOW?

Same goes for game settings, like, graphics and such. Every time I start the game on NOW, settings are custom, some things are on low, some are on epic, I always switch everything to epic, because why else would I play it on GeForce NOW then haha. However for some reason it doesn't save and I need to change everything every time I play. So it makes me think that perhaps everything is being saved on their servers? It doesn't sound practical tho.

Thanks.

Also Geforce Now doesn't allow access to the game's .ini settings files (or other local files).

Hi :)

It depends. The single player is always saved on your PC while the multi-player is saved on the server. Graphics settings are also saved on your computer and cannot be manipulated by the server. This only specifies the settings for the Ini.

You can find the save games and the ini here:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\SCUM\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor <- Ini

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\SCUM\Saved\SaveFiles <- Safegames Singleplayer.

As for the graphics. Would it be helpful to share your settings so that we know what kind of system you have.

Deleting the SCUM folder in Appdata is worth trying to fix the not saving of Settings. The game recreates it up on start. Or you can check whether there is write protection. Because that would prevent anything from being saved. Before doing this, make sure that you backup the individual player saves.

Yea I have found those .ini config files and already tried to manipulate with it, decrease mech's damage a bit, some other things, but it had no effect, seems like it doesn't work.

My PC's specs are:
GTX 750TI Asus edition 2GB of VRAM
AMD Athlon X4 860K ~3.80Ghz
16GB of rams double channel mode
WD Blue 500GB SSD
Win10 Pro 64bit

SCUM does run on my PC, but it lags quite a lot when I enter a bigger town, so that's why I play it on GeForce NOW, their computers run any game on maximum settings with no problems and that's how I play games, that barely run on my PC.

However since changing settings had no effect, I thought that perhaps it's being store on their side, on GeForce NOW servers or something.

The only thing i see is, that your Graphic card is below the minimum Requirements. Should still not prohibit changes inside the Ini. Have you tried to Verify your files ?

Those files are from you local installed game.
Most likely you can't do anything since "Steam cloud" feature is missing.

Hey there, if you are playing game on the GeForce now the settings for SP and config are saved localy on their machine, since this is considered could gaming they mostly only allow you to play the game and don't mess with anything else, if you were playing on your machine you could thinker with everything on your machine if you are playing SP. As far as settings go, if you are reffering to them when playing on GeForce now there isn't rly a reason why you would lower them down since your PC have nothing to do with running the game, game is run on separate PC that you are connected to and you only have to have good internet to be able to run it.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

If we had steam cloud maybe we can modify those ini files locally and then upload them to cloud to be use on GFN.

This is exactly what I meant with my question. Thanks everyone for your replies, it's also nice to see developers and moderators taking their time to talk with the community, it means a lot.

It's unfortunate that GFN works the way it works, but who am I to complain, as long as I can play the game it's fine, especially since this is an amazing survival game like no other.

Just while we are here, lemme ask you a question, is there any plans to improve the SP experience? I get it, that this game is MP orentied and wasting time on SP updates probably is not on the priority list, however if there is something planned to improve SP experience, give more freedom with settings, base building in POIs, human NPCs and such, that would be amazing.

This would be really useful.

Yes, we are constantly working to improve both MP and SP, currently we are working on NPCs that we are planing to add to the game.

That's great, thank you!
