I get this message when I try to start the game and then I press OK and the game closes down.

Can someone help me what to do?

I am having the same issue. Figured I needed to restart my computer after the update so I shut down and rebooted. re-launched Steam and then game. It boots to my character standing in his gear by the fire. I click continue, get the awesome new splash screen then same issue as previous posters have.

In my Steam library right clicked the game and went to properties, brought up the Steam SCUM properties menu and under 'Local Files' tab clicked 'Verify Integrity of Game Files.." It found no issues. Re-launched game same issue.

Error Says:

The UE4-SCUM Game has crashed and will close.

Update: after a search online looks like 'ARK: Survival Evolved' had an update with a similar issue but with different [Line:118]. No solution posted that I could find. Looks like it might be a issue with the Unreal Engine maybe? Possibly that's what the 'UE-4' means

Ran a windows update (apparently I had 2 updates pending). restarted computer, same issue.. same error code.

Ran update for NVIDIA GeForce driver. Got the latest driver update and same issue.

Checked Intel® drivers and software .. up to date.. same issue.

Same stuff here. 0.5 update went smooth, no issues BUT now after "Patch 0.5.5.33519" we had like small 3 days rollback and I played the game on 08.05.2021. Joined day later and can not play cuz of that 149 code.
And yea it look like UE problem...but I see that some of my Steam friends are playing the game...

I just try to delete my saved on "C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Local\SCUM" than try it again

It's work now !

This always happens after a server wipe, just create a new character and start fresh

I can verify this works! Character looks naked in the menu but once you load in, all your gear is still on you.
