So you are saying there is now a way to hide loot from hackers, because now they wont be able to use the ESP's to locate hidden chests and loot them? I know this is a bug but I honestly like that at least we have a way to hide some loot safely. They should implement this as a feature imo; allow one small chest to be placed in some kind of safe zone, so you can save up a little bit of stuff, maybe limit what you can hide in it to not include firearms and/or other too powerful items.
Devs should add totally add this.
When Bank was promoted I thought that we will get some safe storage inside the outpost.
Was just my wish, they never talked about that.
Maybe in futre in boss building. Who knows.
But for sure I'd like to see a permanent storage for those that want to stop to play for a while and come back later.
You do realize cheaters can see everything …?! There’s no reason why they wouldn’t to see and access boxes inside trader zones just like the rest of the map
A player buries a trunk somewhere and it seems like that gets saved to the server state, which I presume that's how ESP's work by being able to scan the server saved state.
My suggestion is that the trunk when buried gets a 15 minute cool down to allow 'legitimate' bad guys to find and loot your stuff, thus negating whinging from them, but after the 15 minutes that trunk 'disappears' from the server save state and is instead somehow saved to another database that the ESP can't scan.
I agree, I thought this was going to be the case.
I was actually against it at first but then the ESP'ers became viral on official servers, so then I came around and thought its a really good idea because I was sick of my logistic chain constantly going missing with no apparent reason.
I still think a security box is a good idea. Have different sizes as well that increase in price
Small, about the size of a small backpack, about $10,000, 100 FP
Medium, about the size of a patrol pack, about $50,000, 200 FP
Large, about the size of a hiking pack, about $100,000, 300 FP
**edit: can't make them too accessible, you have to work for it / play the game **end edit**
yeah maybe a reputation progression with a trader. nice idea.
They are unlootable inside the trader zones as per the post about it further up.
A hacker can't scan data on the server, only the data in the client running on their computer. So saving the chest state on the server IS the location that the hacker can't hack the data about it. Well, unless they actually hack the SERVER itself, but that's not so easy. Technically possible for a hacker with the right skills and tools working on a server with inadequate security. But that probably already rules out 99.99% of all Scum hackers and cheat users.
Which means server side data about buried cache would not (or at least SHOULD not) be exposed to the clients unless they specifically try to dig at that exact right spot. That is the client tries to dig at a spot and the server then checks (only server side) whether this location has a chest; if it does not, then no data about any chest is exposed to the client. No reason to expose data that has no reason to be exposed.
Hiding buried cache is a sound idea in my opinion, it works well in Rust, well except Rust is annoying in that way you need to visit the caches and dig them up/rebury pretty often, like what was it every day or every 2nd day or something, but that's a design decision I just don't like, and therefore easily fixable.
You should be able to rent storage at the Traders. The volume of money you pay, gives you access to X amount of storage for Y amount of time.
It will give an incentive to grind for cash, for other reasons than to just buy power lol.
Yes only exposed when you're right at the spot AND tries to dig for it there. It would indeed be hard to find another players cache, which I think would be good. But you could still stalk other players or check places that you figure would be more prone for people to have buried their cache near, so it wouldn't be completely secure and your own carelessness could significantly reduce the security of it.
You could also announce treasure hunts to other players if you wanted to, give them hints about where your buried cache might be; I participated in that in Rust which I think was a lot of fun.
Or find a trolley or hand truck to roll it back home. Also shopping carts to put stuff in? Honestly how fun would that not be to see someone running through the streets of the city "shopping" with their shopping cart, then ambushing them to steal their loot. Or wait to just steal the cart while they're inside somewhere they can't take it with them.
