Fame points change?
I'm sure plenty of people (including me) had their fair share of issues with the last fame points rework, especially anyone vested in single player (also including me). After starting a new character on this update cycle however, I'm finding it almost impossible to gain fame points. Before I could loot a few tree trunks and if I found bugs I'd be able to buy actual weapons eventually, but now after about three continuous hours of play I only have twenty-two fame points. Does being on the south end of the map affect the fame you get from looting trunks and bushes?

I've been running around defying death on a regular basis, and despite being the only person on the island people don't seem to care who I am. I'd be fine with that if I didn't have to drive a three wheeled car everywhere because the shopkeepers don't think I'm cool enough to be allowed to buy a tire.

Hello :),

Gaining Fame isn't always easy, but the merchants, even if they don't sell you anything yet, can still help you. Sell items to the dealers to get some fame here and increase your notoriety.

Above all, however, rare goods are ideal for this because they naturally weigh more than a butter knife. So make sure you sell valuable things that you don't need to the dealers. With this you not only earn fame but also money.

Yeah, the days of the olive exploit are gone. Just found out myself in singleplayer.
Two hours looting, killing puppets and crafting brought me up to 22 fame...
Not that I'd care too much, I'm usually avoiding the traders anyway, but entertaining the audience (aka getting in touch with and killing the locals) should give more fp imho. At least as much as picking an olive, namely 1 full point, better 2.

Find another car of the same type and get a wheel. Don't bother buying one; car jack, repair kit and you're good.

Don't need a repair kit anymore to install parts. Also no skill is necessary anymore. Just the part and a car jack. ;)

I've seen stuff about this, and how you can gain fame from selling things to dealers. But in all of my exploits of selling the things I get for defying death on a regular basis, I only ever seem to get one or two fame points here and there. I have about 10k from pawning off anything not nailed down, and I still have only 22 fame points. My main concern is that I can't even buy a crowbar in order to get more stuff. This has occurred in previous games before as well, but since I could always get fame points from the one other source, it never mattered to me.

This is probably what I'm going to do either way.

As agitating as it is, this is also my chief complaint with this. Is scum supposed to be a fishing show now? I fell down a giant hatch and completely demolished my leg, but somehow managed to live and creep out of the facility after cutting my way through a horde of the undead. But I got more fame from making an ax and picking insects out of wood-

1 olive = 1 fame point.
It's better than looting city, town, village or compound.

It’s funny. When traders were first proposed many complained it would ruin the game. “Traders shouldn’t be in survival! People will just run to the trader and gear up like it’s a bot server!”

Fast forward and people now complain they can’t spawn in and immediately buy stuff at the trader. The game before traders is a distant memory.

The trader is a perk and gaining fame should not be as simple as searching for olives.

Don't worry, after a couple of week of complains we will go back to the same situation before the patch with 2k FP and hundreds of thousands of SCUM $

If you think about the last year, most of the tweakes were about balancing traders. And more will come.

Traders are a "instable" element of the game, if we talk about balancing it.

It has been reduced by a large amount right now, we're looking into if it needs to be reduced even more. The olive famepoint gain is definitely still kinda high. But now every time you die, no matter how you die you will lose 25% of your famepoints. So you need some way of getting fame.

i recently started playing, about 3 weeks ago, and after learning picking olives gave 5 fame i immediately went and got 450 to get my first car :) now after the update every vehicle is taken instantly :( and i cant buy a vehicle or parts unless i commit several hours of picking olives :( then i went to kill puppets because guides said killing puppets gives fame :) but then the puppets didnt give fame and the guide was wrong, and i couldnt find a new guide because not many people play this game :( i wish this game was more catered to newer players so the player base would grow, just like it did 3 weeks ago when the olives gave enough fame for the average person to buy a car :) but now it doesnt and i cant bring myself to pick olives for 3 hours :( if i was on an official server it would be closer to 10 ish hours of olive picking because the amount of olives would be less :( please consider making fame a priority and making puppets give fame like they used to so every guide i read isnt a waste of time :) also b0 bunker zombies swim through walls and pop out of the floor on a daily basis :(

If you ask me, the fact that it seems like certain things are the only things giving people fame seems like a decent direction to head in. Of course you'd have to overhaul the system for it, but with it being such an integral part of the game I can't imagine it wouldn't be overhauled at some point. Having it be a dynamic, fluctuating thing that cycles between certain game mechanics and gives people the incentive to try out some of the game mechanics. This would scale lore wise with the fact that its a TV show, as realistically a show about ex cons picking olives for ten hours a day wouldn't do all that well in the ratings. With the attention to detail that nearly everything has been offered in this game, you could very well broadcast just about every path of progression in it. Fishing, farming, building, scavenging, and murdering are all things that take dedicated amounts of time, and all but the latter (In multiplayer) reward fame, and that's really only entirely dependent on how many olives that person has picked. Its not just guns that are held behind this fame wall, but tools for things like building, farming, and breaking into boxes. I understand that its a lot of work to rework something of this magnitude, but I think it would put a lot of people's minds at ease if the devs at least came out and said "This is the direction we're going in".

I tried this yesterday; sold guns, ammo, armor, clothing, and meds in five trips. Got money, zero fame.

Same here. Went to make almost 10k from selling stuff in one run. Left with the same amount of fame as I came with. There's something stinky there with gaining fame from selling.
After another run to the same trader worth another 8k all I can buy is food and clothing. Not even 9mm ammo...

I got some decent fame from killing a man. I’m going to keep doing that.

I sold several firearms to the armory dealer and got "0" fame points ?? I guess the thing to do is play on a server where you get a couple of hundred fp's to start out with...lol
