I am also a third-person player; I had to train myself when I started playing SCUM to hit the <Enter> key on my keyboard with my right thumb (on the numeric keypad) to drop into first person before drawing the bow, then hit it again to return to third person afterwards. At this point it is entirely automatic and I do not think about it anymore.
Maximising archery skill made no difference to me either.
I click the right mouse button before firing a gun/rifle and then click it again afterwards. This has worked well for me.

I just changed the hotkey, I use my mouse to switch camera.
It would be better have the choice to shoot in third prson without too many problems.
If it was for me, I would stay most of the time in third person.
Oh hell yeah!
+1 This, right here. is the best course of action!
i have good experience in scum but not much in multiplayer. but from what i heard is that third-person has no advantage due to the 'eye-contact'. with that said, maybe i'm stupid, but i don't understand the meaning of the inaccuracy. but feel free to correct me.
also specifically for the bow. it should be okay if it's accurate in third-person? when somebody comes with an assault rifle and you only have the bow. i think it would be okay to be accurate and die trying. and off topic: the bow handling and the bow itself feels so very good. they did such a great job on it.
As a follow-up to my earlier comment, the key to success with the bow in SCUM is practice, specifically target practice. It really helps to learn where the proper hold point (aim point) is, whether it be in first or third person. The proper hold point will vary based on distance. Using a target to learn where these aiming points are can be very, very helpful.
For me, I consistently seem to shoot low-left when aiming directly at the centre of a target, meaning that I have to hold slightly high-right at close range and more so at longer ranges. This actually lines up with my real life experience with a bow, so it seems very realistic to me.
Third person with a bow is kind of like "hip shooting" because you are not aligning your eye in a way that will result in accurate shots. Still, if you use a target and train yourself to know the hold point, you can be reasonably successful.
Below are some examples using a compound bow.
Notes:
I have maximum archery skill, STR is 8, and the bow was adjusted just beforehand (120 lbs).
Press and hold the left <Ctrl> key to hold your breath and improve accuracy!

On a related note, SCUM can sometimes resolve differences with your spouse in real life! I was a bit upset after my husband spent another night out playing cards with his buddies (he did call regularly, but still...). Rather than argue in real life, I told him the next morning that I would forget the whole thing if he could run toward me from 300 metres on the SCUM range and make it to the shooting platform without dying. I would have my compound bow, he could do whatever he wanted so long as he remained inside of the range. I am fair, I gave him five tries.
He never made it; I have been practising a lot with the bow...

I forgave him because this whole thing made me laugh so hard.

so please for the devs: adjust the third-person shooting accuracy by a bit. i feel like a total idiot when bullets and arrows are meters away. it doesn't have to be pinpoint but please.
