SCUM
Farming question
Hello Fellow Scums! :)

As the title suggest, i made a new character on my single player world so i can practice a bunch of things before i go play on an actual server so i won't be such an easy target and my life would be great on the said server.. :)) roleplayer forever here..

Anyway, so i've tried to do some farming. i spent about maybe 6 irl hours on my plants. mainly potato and lemon.. and the 4 hours was actually an eternity of watering and weeding and when i got my hands on some fertilizer.. i did that.

so, do plants actually grow? or do i just have lack of patience? i'll accept it either way... its just that i want to be able to farm my own lemon for hydration and vitamins, because i mainly just fish for meat because hunting chickens suck, cant hit them with a bow and i have no stamina enough to catch that bastard :))) (Honestly, hunting is skill issue, i know)

but can anyone give me tips regarding the farming thing? i have like 2 squares of garden bed. so i believe its 4 potato seeds and 4 lemon seeds also.

so if anyone can tell me how they work, it would be much appreciated...
oh also, i live in a nice open area beside a river. with some trees around me. would that have any effect on the growth of plants? unlimited water, but fertilizer i have to go out and look for, when i come back from looking for fertilizer i have to weed my plants. but no growth :(((

thanks fellow scums! :)

Here's what's involved:

1. Seeding/Planting
After planting a seed in your garden, water and apply fertiliser, insecticide, herbicide, and fungicide.

The addition of these four optional items at the beginning of each phase of growth will greatly increase your chances of success, speed up growth, save a lot of time (no repetitive weeding), and prevent loss of plants to pests or rot. Weeds slow down growth so either use the herbicide or get rid of them with your hands or a hoe when they show up.

You can add up to around 3.7 litres of water when initially planting. Keep an eye on water levels (right click on each plant to see water status and the phase they are in), even if it rains. Never let water levels get too low (I kept water >500 ml, you can probably go lower). Gardens in higher temperature regions will need to be watered more often.

Seeding takes about one day (in game) to complete. This can vary based on lighting levels in your garden.

2. Vegetating
You will begin to see sprouts at the beginning of this phase.

Remember to apply fertiliser, insecticide, herbicide, and fungicide again.

Keep an eye on water levels.

Vegetating takes about one day (in game) to complete. This can vary based on lighting levels in your garden.

3. Flowering:

You will begin to see flowers at the beginning of this phase.

Remember to apply fertiliser, insecticide, herbicide, and fungicide again.

Keep an eye on water levels.

Flowering takes about one day (in game) to complete. This can vary based on lighting levels in your garden.

4. Ripening:

You will begin to see fruit/vegetables at the beginning of this phase.

Remember to apply fertiliser, insecticide, herbicide, and fungicide again.

Keep an eye on water levels.

Flowering takes about one day (in game) to complete.

5. Ripe:

Ready to harvest!

I applied insecticide, herbicide, and fungicide again, though this may not be necessary.

Keep an eye on water levels.

TIPS:

Only one garden is allowed in your base.

Choose a spot that receives full sunlight for best results.

You can't place a garden on top of base elements.

Place your garden in an area free of bushes and tall grass.

Consider starting out small (maybe a 2x3) for your first try.

The time needed to plant a seed and to tend to your garden will lessen with increased farming experience.

You can obtain water from rivers using multiple (empty) gasoline canisters. Buckets and watering cans will "self empty" if you place them in a container (including a vehicle).

You can get more than one harvest (additional searches) if you maintain your garden after it ripens. Remember to water!

MULTIPLAYER:
The server "world" will continue to run after you leave the server, so if you (or a squad member) isn't keeping an eye on your garden, (particularly prior to the "ripe" phase) it's likely that you will lose plants or the entire crop.

Start a garden at a time when you or a squad member has time to check in every 5-6 hours or so until all the plants are ripe (remember that insecticide, herbicide, and fungicide need to be added every time your plants enter a new phase or you might have insects, weeds, or rot).

Watering after ripening is important as well because plants will die without water and rain may not be enough, especially in warmer climate areas. It's like real life in this respect; SCUM isn't like Minecraft where ripe plants remain indefinitely in a multiplayer world without attention.

Once your plants are ripe you can get away with less frequent checks if you water to the maximum amount before you leave the server.

SINGLE PLAYER:
The world pauses when you leave and gardens are easier to start and maintain. It may seem to take longer for gardens to grow because your time "off island" won't be counted.

Lemons take forever to grow.
Have NOTHING in your hands and Focus few on the square you planted and it will give you info on the plants status of growth and water, sunlight, ect.

Being NEAR a water source is useful but not required.
FERT can be found easy near farms and villages.
Weeds are super annoying even with Weedkiller
The Garden Hoe makes de-weeding 100% faster.

I enjoy the farming scum offers but on single player it's very painful due to time needed to grow.
You will find online easier as time progresses while off line, but try and log in often as plants will die while offline

i love the detaaaails! and yes i fail to freaking do some of this things.. because im so secluded that finding the fungicide and other things are a pain. but this is sooo goood! <3
THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS IS SOOOO HELPFUL <3
Hi POTSKIEBEAR,

There are a lot of great people in the community that are here to help, so do not be shy!

Watering, fertiliser, fungicide, herbicide, and attention really are the key to success. Before I start farming I always take the time to loot through towns and other areas with barns and small outbuildings. There are also larger buildings in some towns and POIs that often contain gardening materials (the taller buildings with two rows of shelving and unpainted wooden boxes in them). Also certain POIs.

Personally, I find that the toughest area to find farming supplies is in the Z sectors. Water can be a pain too because you need a lot with a larger garden. Unfortunately our base is located in... ...you guessed, it... the Z sector.

Best of luck with the gardening. It really does get easier with time as your farming skills increase.
