Quick question for the devs...
What, exactly, is necessary to keep a vehicle from despawning on an official PVE server in the current build?

I had a quad with no motor that I had put a lock on that I had been nudging back and forth and interacting with the inventory almost daily while I waited for my fame to get high enough to use the mechanic and get it running. I had noticed that over the last few days it would be moved slightly from where I had left it. I chalked this up to the game 'placing' it in a different spot when I approached. Yesterday, however, it was about 5 meters away and much closer to the woods. Today it's vanished.

Is it still a matter of needing to start the engine, as it was previously, so with no motor you're limited in how long you have to get it running? Is there a way, maybe with another vehicle, that you can push a locked vehicle on a PVE server and someone cheesed it away so it would despawn?

I felt lucky to even find a vehicle that didn't have a lock on it already on wipe day. I've never even seen a bike on this server in the two wipes I've been playing on it. Would love some clarification.

If a player uses a vehicle without an engine instead of a chest, does this mean that the vehicle and its contents are lost?

What happens in each case when the vehicle is not moved from the place where it was found and when it is moved?

Another vehicle without a motor that I had locked and interacted with almost daily (both nudging and inventory) has now done the same thing, so it looks like the reset for the despawn timer is still the vehicle actually being started. I'd still love for a dev to confirm, but will assume this for now.

Bit of a shame. It's not very engaging to spend 80% of a game session watching my character jog.

Since the update I've had 4 vehicles vanish when logging on, could be related.

I advised the YouTuber to whom I recommended SCUM that vehicles without engines can also replace chests.

Many of the vehicles in the field are often missing multiple items such as tires, batteries, alternators, etc.

Vehicles are not immediately ready to drive.
A player may attach something to a vehicle and then attach something else a few days later.
If a player attaches something to a vehicle and then it disappears while the vehicle is being used as a chest, the player would be in for quite a shock.
I feel bad for the YouTubers that I recommended SCUM to.

I don't care if it is a spec or a bug, but I need clarification on whether or not the rides disappear.

To prevent the vehicle from disappearing, you need to start it and drive at least 1 meter. once every 10 days.
Accordingly, any vehicle without an engine will disappear 10 days after it appeared in the world.

Thank you very much.

So the spawned vehicles disappear and respawn every 10 days.
I had never paid attention to this before, so I didn't notice.

In the future, I will stop recommending to anyone that a vehicle without an engine is an alternative to a chest.

Another reason why we have all vehicles spawn with an engine on our servers.

In response to someone's complaint that all the engine-less rides were useless, I had countered that the engine-less rides could be substituted as chests.
I guess I was wrong.

Well, maybe the rides without engines serve as parts.

I only play SCUM in single player mode, so I may be wrong in my suggestion,
For multiplayer, it might be better to make all vehicles with engines and make it easier for players to get rides.
It would give the players more range to move around, and thus more chances to meet other players. It is up to the players to decide whether they want to shoot each other or become friends.
