SCUM

Looking for a clear answer on Hosting Servers in 2023
I was thinking about picking up Scum while its one sale but its unclear even now if you can host your own dedicated server from you home computer. Some websites say no and some say yes so which is it ? Can i host a Scum server from my home computer for dozens of players to play on without having to rent or pay a hosting service ?

NO Only from the 5 server providers!
In these forums the devs have said that they will not consider it until the 1.0 release of the game.

i wouldn`t hire a server for playing scum not from any hosting server, the servers often play up and regularly go down, i used to know 30 people who 6 months ago played scum daily in some cases, now i`m the only one playing scum and server issues is the reason they won`t come back, i keep hearing players say it will be better when it reaches 1.0 - no it won`t it will get worse, and will they still hide behind early access as an excuse of course they will.

Hey there OP, in forums this question was asked quite a lot of times, we have already said that hosting the servers on your own machines is not possible at this point. What they are referring to on server hosting sites most likely is a dedicated machine where nothing else would be hosted but your SCUM server.

So no possibility of creating a server on my own home server that is likely 5x more powerful than the crap gportal rents to me? Bought 3 copies of the game with intention of a home server, but I assume you only release the files to the providers for $$?

Ah well another game that will sit on the steam shelf unplayed lol at least until you guys decide to release the files to your customers.

You bought the game for you and gifted it to 2 friends without doing a tiny bit of research if the game offers public server files?? 😳
Well that's....clever. Hats off.

You>>> but I assume you only release the files to the providers for $$?
The devs do not receive any money from the server providers. By doing this they saved game development money not having to host their own.
They have said this many times already!
:::::
In these forums one can read prior to purchase!
transitive verb
: to learn from what one has seen or found in writing or printing
: to become acquainted with or look over the contents of (something, such as a book)
: to check
: UNDERSTAND, COMPREHEND

This post is just as silly as the devs not providing users the opportunity to host their own game.

This game runs on UE4 which comes out of the box with dedicated server support. Congrats on knee capping your own development to a wide audience of users who want to use your product, but don't want to deal with crappy server hosting platforms.

Great business model. Must have learned it from Wild Card or something.

Too many people post things with no thought!
Such as ....It's broke fix it
OK what is broke
what is the server name and ip
All the time the devs have to ask
Then they would have to waste their time taking away from everyone else's needs
to find out that some idiots f'ed mod is what is broke not what they did
Or they just changed something, added something and it broke that mod and players come running to the forums or the discord having no clue that it's the mod that is now broke because of the change....
They already have to do that with Admins not understanding how to set up their own servers!|
They have their reasons.
They have posted them in the past.
It is their game.
It is EA and they have a very big page explaining that in big letters!

Wild Card had dedicated server support For Ark Survival Evolved from nearly day 1. or at least in the first few months of the release to early access . There were updates to the game daily or weekly through out this early access period as well as adding more features to the dedicated server options that and steam workshop is why Ark was so successful .

UE4 Does come with out of the box dedicated server support

No dev will ever take the time out of there day to deal with player hosted dedicated server issues. That is usually done by the community alone not the dev's unless an official patch broke something.

So the question is really why wont they release the dedicated server files? What is the reason ? Its not a tall ask its not a big deal the engine they use already supports it.

How do you think these server host's are doing it ? Magic ? rewriting the game code to run a public server ? No .

I don't pretend to know the answer why they refuse to release the dedicated server files its probably easier then adopting steam workshop . From most of the answers I have read they wont even say that is coming for sure at release only that it might or could .

This is why i wont be buying the game until dedicated player servers are released. Who knows buy the time they finally get around to doing it for there community who has been asking for years now ill probably be playing something else and totally forget this game even exists .

Simple searching would answer all your questions. However I'll cut it for you - security reasons.
