You can also lure him around the same half-round from the other end (nearer the gate) and once he's on the opposite side (between the half-round and the fence) sprint to the door.
A well placed flare at the end of his walk away from the door (thrown from the far end of the other half-round farther from the gate) can keep him distracted long enough to go around the other side and in.
In any case it helps to clear any wandering puppets first.
If you come out this way: Wait until he starts walking away from the door and head out at a jog going toward the left around the other half-round. You can listen for him to approach and look side to side before opening the door.
General tips:
-Stay out of their vision as much as possible. (Picture a half sphere *not a cone* attached to their nose about 100 yard in diameter.)
-They can hear you if you're loud enough. The slower you move the closer you can be before they notice.
-Know their pattern. Not just the path, but also the timing.
The rear hatch is much the same, except there you have more bushes to hide in. Know the path here as well, as the mech walks through some of the bushes.
Which ones?
They should only open fire immediately if you're in a high security spot, like actually on the ramp to the bunker entrance or inside. Just crossing the fence line you should get the warning first.
+1 perfect SCUM philosophy!
And,
the higher your stealth skill, the quieter you'll be (especially helpful in PvP)
The bunker in A4 is the one I am having the most difficulty with although I went to the airport in the middle of the map today and had the mech's shooting at me even when I was outside the fence line. But example, went into the fenceline at A4 by the warehouse on the north side of the area, hid from the mech until it came up to the warehouse and walked away from it, I waited until it was adjacent to the southern warehouse and then crouch walked and as soon as I hit the first bush he pivoted towards me and immediately went yellow and started shooting.
I also tried accessing in B4 the ladder at the top of the area and waited for the mech that guards up there to be nearly to the other side of the compound before approaching the ladder and I'd say about ten feet past the fence line he also pivoted at yellow status and began shooting.
Similar situation I was near the airport in the grassy area next to the warehouses outside the fenceline when the mech began shooting at me. After they broke off the I went to a warehouse on the other side of the fenceline the mech spotted me and began firing, I went into the warehouse, closed the door, and hid behind a cable wheel. It walked near the door, saw me, and began shooting through the walls at me. In so far I've also never seen them shoot through the walls either.
I guess for me I'm just not getting their sound or visual ranges which is bothering me because I raid the docks at A4 * all * the time and dodge the mechs there without issues. I guess I'm just not sure why the situations seem different.
Is there a weight to sound scale I can find anywhere? I generally stay fairly clothed up with a hiking backpack but maybe that's why some mechs can hear me?
Try playing it extra conservatively (regarding their visual range and distance) and see what changes. If you duck out at a certain point and get seen, the next time you try give it another second / step. Keep in mind their visual angle is literally 180 degrees in front of them. If they seem to pivot due to sound try giving it a little more distance.
A4 is one of my regulars and I usually don't have any issue. When I do it's almost always because I get in a hurry and is totally my mistake.
If they can see you through the windows they'll take shots at you. Not many buildings will give you full protection from their guns, either.
There's a meter for how much noise you're making in the bottom left HUD, but I don't find it much use. Generally if you're walking you're safe at very close range. Jogging you want to be about 5 or 6 of 'their' steps away. Don't run until you're about twice that. Of course, weight will change this. Going in is one thing. Coming out give yourself a little more room.
Next time I'm on I'll see if I can record my A4 run and you can compare with what you're doing.
Edit - Made a few runs tonight.
I went in three ways here. The first is my usual, following him in as he paths.

The second is a little riskier, alerting him and bringing him around the half-round.

The last is through the back hatch. Note he's already alerted (yellow lights). The timing is a bit different, but it keeps him from doing the stop-and-pivot that makes him more likely to spot you. If you want to do it without alerting him you'll want to try to make sure he's facing more directly away from you enter and as you move from bush to bush. (Jump to 1:20 for the actual entry.)

The downside to the last two methods is that anyone in the bunker will hear you alert him.
