You can wear bodyarmor and still get scratched at the chest by a simple slap of a puppet..
ofcourse like bunny said, vs. bullets most armor are almost useless, but in sp it would be nice to know which armors absorb more melee hits from muppets, and which armors can block damage from the exploding muppets. some stats and more info on certain items would be nice (yes im an rpg gamer at heart, Skyrim... nudge-wink)
I'm paraphrasing, so maybe a dev can correct me if I'm off, but each offensive item in the game has a certain amount of energy, and each clothing item can absorb a certain amount of energy. If the offensive item (say a bullet) had more energy than the clothing it hits can absorb, it will penetrate, losing a little bit of that energy equal to what the clothing absorbs. The damage is then calculated based on what's left. Soft clothing can't absorb much. There's also differences in what type of damage (bullets, blunt, etc.) the armors are good against.
The energy formula is also used in determining whether ammo pierces other things like vehicles and walls.
Overall, however, if someone gets a bead on you with a decent weapon you're going to go down regardless of what you are wearing. It'll come down to who sees who first. This includes pistols. Plus the armor only protects what it covers.
