Fame points will increase over time with almost all activities. In principle, however, anything you do yourself, such as making ammunition or otherwise following the survival aspect, is a good way to get a good amount of fame points relatively quickly.
As an example, I recently started a new character, but after just 2 days (about 8 SCUM days) I was able to get a considerable amount of fame points by surviving on the island every day (it's currently 138FP without me focusing on it).
Personally, I get the biggest boost when I make ammunition for the guns I plan to use. I then usually use these until they are empty to make a new batch.
