SCUM
Washing and Drying?
I hope the Devs come up with a better system for Drying clothes, but also when you are away from water there needs to be some type of washtub to wash clothes. Using your well (not that they're working now) isn't worth the water loss

a drying rack would be a nice middle ground - takes effort but gets it done.

Hello,

Thanks for your suggestions, we will consider some

Does putting them near a fire dry them like dayz? I've heard yes, but from my own trials, it does nothing. Dayz has a "wring clothes" option that partially removes water, then you put them near a heat source to fully dry them. I'd have thought something as advanced as scum would already have this.

Just like dayz. Light a fire, place clothes on the ground, wait a few minutes.

Will add reasons for people to light fires!

While at it, make it so I don't need 3 bars of soap to clean a pair of socks.

We can make improvised skewers and how many other items in game but we can't make a improvised drying rack or clothes line.

We cannot hang them on the low level branches or even place them on a bush and build a fire under or near.

Current method is a waste of time as they are drying they are getting dirty all over again in most cases!

Drying racks? Clothes line? Sounds tedious and excessive.

We should Just be able to do as i wrote above

They are aiming for a realistic like game that can still be fun!

Placing clothes on the ground begins to make them dirty again!

I bet there's already a server setting for that.
"ItemDecayDamageMultiplier" ?

They never said that.

From their own page: Read the first paragraph you will notice the words (hyper realistic)

Explore, loot, craft and customise your way to dominance – or inevitable death. SCUM is a truly immersive and hyper realistic survival experience where you have total control of your progression.

You start as a prisoner on the super-max SCUM island under the watchful eye of the sinister TEC1 corporation. Roam the rolling fields, lush forests and other rugged terrains of the island, using skills, guts and cunning to survive.

Incredibly complex simulation makes every detail matter. Eat the right diet, keep your wounds free of infection or it won’t just be the physical threats that take your life. Seek to take out other players or join forces while you loot and craft your way to better gear and weaponry. Flex your creative muscles with extensive base building options and reinforcements that will make your fortress impenetrable.

The island is vast and full of ways to die, from fellow prisoners to killer mechs and sinister ‘puppets’ suspended between life and death. All you have is what you’re carrying – everything else is up to you. Inventory space is minimal. Progression will be tough. Noobs will die.

Oh, and one more thing… you’re not just a prisoner. TEC1 is also an entertainment company, and they’re broadcasting every triumph and failure on SCUM island to a bloodthirsty audience of millions. So smile...you’re on TV.

SCUM is built with Unreal Engine 4 and will expand throughout the Early Access period. Fans can follow details on development with weekly dev updates on the SCUM website and on

I've set mine as 0.1 already and I still need 1 soap bar for a pair of socks at ~60% dirty levels, so either that doesn't apply to "consumable" items like soap and screwdiver or is bugged out.
PainGravy Sep 2, 2024 @ 1:46pm
OP gonna be hoping for a LONG time.
CrankyOldMan Sep 2, 2024 @ 2:04pm
Item decay multiplier is for items that basically are in a stored state. Items in your chests, wardrobes, storage shelves, gun racks even inside the vehicles.

Food decay works the same way.

It does not effect how many bars of soap are required to wash a item of clothing!
There is no setting for that.
Maybe a high survival reduces it but I never checked that.

Excuse me, but... Have you ever placed clothes on the ground in real life?
Lol

Unless they're placed in literal dung they should be tine, fine, besides the ground has way less microbes than many other surfaces...
