It's usually pretty tough to fully secure it, as you can't always cover every gap. Plus caves are marked on the 3rd party maps, so you'll probably have a lot of visitors.
I usually just use caves to camp out for the evening. If I want to build a permanent base I'll find a place out of the way in the middle of the woods or something.
Wondering if there is some sort of door/door frame tip I'm missing (as mentioned I haven't built much in this game). For example is there a way to place a door in a wall without a frame (I assume not but was hoping I could place a cabin door in it :) )
Was that Mr. Feudal"s YouTube vid? I watched it and made notes how to do it. Then I went to the cave he showed us and tried it myself.
What he did (and I) was to put the single door frame in first THEN the walls then the door. It does work his way although my walls on 1 side was a bit longer than his because I couldn't line them up quite like he did. They do blend in though.
I play on single player so I don't really have to worry about people but I do worry about "things that go bump in the night" lol. Anyway I wanted to see if I could do it so I tried. It worked but I have not tried other caves. I may try another one later on in game just for a temp base in my wanderings.
