If I play scum again I'd like a PvP server like:
1. Solo player (how you police that I don't know).
2. Absolutely no rules. Shoot on sight.
3. No mines.
4. Weekly wipe (wait for the next wipe and we are all the same).
5. Medium loot (we can have fun before the next wipe).
6. Wide safe zone circumference (so you don't get sniped easily).
2. Its because i always used to wait to see if someone was friendly. Then I would get shot in the face with an ak.
The main problem with PvP servers is the number of them. Too many servers or too few players? I joined some, got tooled up and could find anyone to dance with.
Thank you, I'll keep it in mind. Cheers
The details of this game drew me in. The vitamins, your food in and outtake and everything, pairing that with survival.
Anyway, for me it was years ago, i have no idea when they took it out. But when you started a new playthrough, this floating robot would fly above your head.. GIving the feeling that it's a battelroyale type of setting (rich people looking at prisoners doing crazy things and placing their bets) Also known as 'fame' points.. it's all in line with that battleroyale feeling.
That is my little dream for this game. To have some kind of battleroyal setting, similar to pubg, but! pubg is over within an hour or so.. I would like to see SCUM become something similar as the movie.. Because that match, didn't take place in a day.. It took a week? ANd it was a big map, so you had a lot of time to prepare, or just for resting.
People had to survive, had to eat. Some paired up and etc.
I have no idea how to implement this within the game and to make it fun, but i thought the following: Server wipes will happen weekly or something like that.. within that week players can try to get the highest score and at the end of that week, a little scoreboard and perhaps some price money or something.
Anyway, at the moment, i still lean towards PVE play, because i am still figuring it all out and i am a solo player, no discord, no squads or whatever.. I have no idea how to survive properly, i am a literal scavenger in this game. Haven't build a base yet, because i have no idea how to supply myself with steady food and water. I think, i only had once a working gun.. with bullets.. Haven't attempted hunting yet, and those things..
I am still a noob ;)
The best thing about scum is the community and there are many different points of view. My advice would be to not bother investing too much time until/if the full v1.0 is out supposedly some time next year. Between now and then it may be a very different game.
That said, to learn the basics I would play offline single player, however scum evolves getting a good start will always be vital. If you are looking for the survival experience you can turn off the mechs and the hoards etc. When you want more and to go online don't use official servers.
There are private PvE as well as PvP or a combination of both. Use ones that have an active admin. Most if not all will have a discord community where you can ask questions and find times when they meet etc. I've always found them very welcoming, however when there is a battle-royale organised its usually at a bad time and otherwise you never run into anyone on the map.
You'll never be short of advice on this forum lol. Cheers
Thx for the advice!
You know.. at the moment.. i haven't met a player yet.. I've never crossed paths with one. So from this point of view, it is quite realistic.. it's a big world and you must be 'lucky' to meet each other randomly.
Then again.. i haven't visited a store yet, i assume those areas are more busy with players. (that's another thing i need to figure out, why do i need a store? How to earn money, i guess selling loot? Sigh.. but then i need a big backpack :p)
Anyway, i do like this game (for weird reasons that i don't have answers for).. it's getting better and it's more refined then what it used to be.
It's just.. i am not sure where this game will lead.. what it will become.. I wonder :)
In the earlier part of the game life (like 2019 somewhere) i played on a server based on territory and warfare. When u load in, u pick a team based on space availability. Each team have a headquarters town that is visible on the map. Town takeovers was REAL. The social camaraderie was on another level where u always go looting with a buddy or if ya ballzy go solo. Training as a team and dying like warriors.
The Scum game design mentioned factions on the island, tho things are subject to change, i hope the implement factions similar to the territory and warfare theme, complete with arm bands and custom uniforms. Pvp would still have the kos situations maybe alot less as persons may try to recruit rather than kos.
Since we're on a prison island tv show, in prison u have gangs, maybe we have gang factions that players will fill and base npc's that help base maintaining and defending.
Ok Imma Address these the best I can. Multiplayer servers are in a Rut Especially when it comes to PVP. Which this is normal for a survival game. We can only implement what the devs give us which Is why Im hoping at 1.0 They will allow the player to make mods. With the Public PVP server I own I have done my best to put unique twists on everything the game has to offer. additionally with Whalley bot I didnt do the same as every other server does.
I feel like there is some confusion on my initial question. Im not asking what your dream server would be. Im looking at What the game is right now Where we are with the state of servers specifically PVP what is your Ideal version of a PVP server?
High loot or low? Mechs? no mechs? Bot Shop? or No?
Im Asking so I can help this community and create the server that the majority of player want to play on. I have a very strong server now but what do you guys want to see in a server (Thats within the realm of possibility)
PS Amsterdamaged there are Battle royal servers in scum Ive played on a few. Typically they are Russian but they are fun.
Not killing leads to persistent risk of the other player killing you which they automatically do if they have any time in the game because of the psychology of KOS & Kill or Be Killed.
Were SCUM to have a tracks system, vehicle tracks, foot prints, toe kicks, ways players could pick up on other players for the last 20 minutes, and be able to follow players, you'd have much more interaction. You'd also have no need to kill everything in sight because instead of sighting indications of players once every 4 hours, you'd see players four times in an hour. Killing all the time too would run you out of ammo pretty fast.
SCUM needs to develop the ability for players to be hunted if there is ever to be a bounty system. It needs to be organic too and not forced like kill feeds.
If players knew they could be tracked, they could do things to cover their tracks or set ambushes, form up into squads or play the woods game and stay away from where other squads group up.
Humanity's history was made up of Soldiers, Farmers, or the Clergy. In SCUM, not everybody wants to PVP, but the only way to bridge PVE players and PVP players is to put those PVE players behind the walls protected by the PVP players and get them farming cooking, boiling water, looting building and repair sorting etc.
SCUM is designed around squads but it really doesn't work that well as a squad game and it should be more faction based but none of those systems exist.
Armbands and shared vehicles would go a long way towards ensuring productive survival in SCUM.
Great post, I had to go and eat some meat halfway though just to be manly enough to keep reading lol.
That said, not sure if it helps the OP in whats currently doable on a PvP server. You have some awesome ideas and should post them on the suggestions thread. Cheers
The map as it is is great, lots of variety, loads of places to go, a different scenery every day. Yes the overall building asset pool feels a bit shallow and overused but those of us with 1,000s of hours would feel that no matter how varied, because we'd have seen it all.
The major problem is lack of interaction, the symptoms, which are player boredom inspite of the fact there is always something to do to effect better survival, and lack of incentive to not just waste any other player you meet.
A tracks system well implemented, would really make the large map, feel not so large, because there would be truly no hiding, and everybody would need a base for defense because the bush wookies with boxes in bushes or trees would be located too soon to trust them out in the open.
Just like urbanization as civilization grew, the whole reason people live in urban settings is ready access to resources, trade, security, life, and living out in the bush only gets you cricket stew and sticks and stones to defend with. With sophisticated enemies and hierarchies begets sophisticated alliances and ways of coping against threats.
The threat level in the game by players currently is far below the artificial threat level created by the hoards, Brenner, Mechs, or the dropship. Players need to become a focus of the game and less so the AI. AI has no intrinsic care for winning or losing. Players meanwhile, in a scarce, difficult but engaging survival game, absolutely care. The best defense is strength in numbers. With engine limitations on vehicles it makes so much more sense to have squads part of a faction system, sharing resources, mutually coming to each others aid etc.
X - I like the ideas but sadly it doesnt help with the current state of the game. It sounds like you have played on official a lot and or the cookie cutter servers out there. Im sorry you've had to deal with that. If your looking for a place that helps fit your criteria please add me and shoot me a message.
Sadly they wont... the Quest can be accepted form a mobile phone in your base and then you find a random item you probably already have then take it to the trader. that is their "quest" system and Whalley bot already has this.....
