Unfortunately I can't predict how much you'll like it, but I can tell you a little about what awaits you on the island, because the experience can be very different depending on which path you want to follow.
Starting with the size of the map, this is very important. The game world is huge and freely accessible, which opens up numerous possibilities. It would then be particularly interesting for PvP players at PoIs, because here, where the "loot flows" so to speak, there is of course hope for rich loot. Of course, you can also plunder a foreign base that you can track down in the vastness of the maps.
PvP can also be experienced on specific servers that prefer the PvP aspect rather than the survival focus. Thanks to numerous server settings, operators of a private server can change and adjust a lot here.
Official servers, on the other hand, offer the full survival result as intended (with variations on PvE, single/duo servers and hardcore servers).
Overall, there are many dangers and opportunities to experience on the island, the maximum official number of players per server is 64 players.
The focus of the game, however, is primarily the survival aspect. Vehicles are available, but getting one can be difficult, but it is not impossible. There are 3 different cars, 4 watercraft, 1 airplane, 1 motorcycle and 2 bicycles on offer, and wheelbarrows are also a way to move things (and sometimes just do mischief with them). The number of vehicles is limited, but not so that there are only 5-10, but definitely significantly more.
Challenges can also be found on the island in different varieties. Be it entering the nuclear power plant, or what is left of it, exploring the hot islands or the cold mountainous area. But there are also abandoned bunkers with horrors hidden inside that will hopefully never come out.
The developers are also working on more.
I would definitely recommend trying the game out and getting to grips with everything to see whether you will enjoy the game in the long run or not. :)
Simply NO, for for your purpose. As mentioned above, PVP is dead, there is no drive to do it, you die, you will be back in few minutes. As solo, you cant fight squads, simply not possible.
the map was expanded and is now too big for the 64 players on an official server to run into each other frequently. Things were better before the expansion :(
Also when there is pvp, players who are killed can respawn and return to their bodies within minutes if they have the resources to do so. So what this means is that players who log in all day gathering resources will win every fight and succeed at every base raid because they just out respawn their opponents. Vehicles hold dozens of back up load outs for fresh respawns to quickly get back into the fight.
My most memorable example of this nonsense was soloing a 4 man at the airfield. During the fight I was not killed once, I got 8 kills, used all 100 rounds of 5.56 and throwables and was forced to escape without being able to loot a single body, or continue to loot the POI, or continue to play my session in the battle space that I owned because these trash players kept running to a vehicle in the woods to grab a fresh load out after respawning back to the poi within 3 minutes of getting shot in the face. This has happened several times, just absolutely broken mechanics.
The upcoming implementation of arm bands to identify friends versus name tags that are visible through terrain and buildings gives me hope, however, very little hope lol. Even though the path this game has been on for years clearly isnt retaining a player base i cant help but to think the devs are just blind to the issues and are going to stay on this path.
If so modding is the only hope.
True.
I totally get your frustration with the current respawn system. I had a similar experience recently where I managed to take down a group of players, only to have them come back almost immediately because they had the resources to do so. It made the fight feel endless and really undermined all the effort and strategy I put into winning.
The respawn system definitely needs to be fixed. Using money to respawn makes it too easy for players who log in all day and gather resources. It would be so much more balanced if fame points were used for respawns instead. Fame points are harder to accumulate and would add a layer of difficulty, making players think twice before jumping back into the fight so quickly.
I agree fame should be used, it's a MUCH better way to control such antics, and then something should be done about the ALT. nonsense....
no hard feelings people
not sure how long you been playing
it WAS fame to respawn and people still did exactly the same thing
its the battle royal mentality that is partly to blame for this
i would also say its the people scum picks up just by being simmilar to other games
instead of grinding money you will have no lifers grind fame, nothing changes
what was it 50 FP a sector? thats still like 10 spawns if they are at max 1000fp
if they have killed people then then can go OVER 1000
the money was added for the traders since trying to buy stuff with FP wasnt going to work
when you needed it for respawns
often the point of "i dont have enough time to grind,to compete with no lifers"
theres like 3 choices you got in this situation
1. be one with the no life and join them
2 find a server that fits your schedule
OR
lastly this one is often the hardest for people to grasp
3. stop playing scum, it is not a very "casual gamer" friendly game, you NEED to be able to sink time into the game or you will be left in the dust by the no lifers
today though people need Fp to buy anything from the traders
since they made the money system its 10 fold harder to gather FP its used to gatekeep spam buying from traders at the start of new charactor
it used to be easy to get FP when it was used for spawning
the devs cant stop people from buying the game on another account..
whos to say the account isnt a family member... how are the devs supposed to make that call?
ban people cause they play in the same house? lmfao
before people go "i just have my alt with fp" thats fine thats what being a no life brings own it, mega chad!
scum ends up being picked by alot of people from different genres of games
but simmilar and i would say that kinda helps but also hurts scum
the comparison to dayz is a obvious one
people play dayz its not about the survival its about the shooting since it was based off ARMA and thats a military simulator AKA shooter first
thus dayz is a shooter FIRST
then a jank survival experience SECOND
as an after thought
scum is supposed to be a survival FIRST
then a looter shooter SECOND
but we got people trying to play like a shooter first... see the issue?
scum you CAN pvp
but IMO its not really supposed to be the end all to be all
it gets boring real fast when all people do is shoot on sight...
theres BETTER games for that like call of duty
what ends up happening is
what ever game these people find no longer fun, they play scum the exact same way they would if they still played the game they stopped playing
scum knocked off ALOT of these people when they changed the spawn system
you can still see them posting about how they HATE the puppet spawns now
sometimes its valid from people not used to the system yet or some jank and thats fine
but mostly its people not being able to run&gun KOS like they rambo
without a hoard chasing them
but besides that ramble to the OP
dosnt seem like you will enjoy it
if you thought dayz was a walking simulator
you havent seen nothing yet
stick to rust
and
call of dooty
Also, SCUM is still in early access and will probably jump in popularity when there's a full release.
