Most people use scum-map.com on a second monitor or alt-tab to it. SCUM Admin Helper also has a good map with lots of features.
Player bases decay over time and will despawn if not maintained. This keeps things mostly clear of other player's stuff.
The only semi-permanent impact is player locks on world-doors, which can become a problem.
If its not a problem for another question
If lets say you are a new player on a official server, is it hard to find a base spot (Is map crowded with other players bases)
As for how many bases are on the map, it depends on a server and they are usually not evenly spread. In my experience you'll have like 3-4 bases per square. If you just run somewhere, there is a high chance you'll see maybe one base on the way to your destination.
I should probably add I play on pvp servers only, I don't know how things are on pve servers.
But there are problems why little is being built now.
1. Cheaters
2. Lock picking system.
This will 99% disappoint you. If the developers don't fix these two things before version 1.0 comes out, the game will disappoint a lot of people 100%.
