Spear Throwing
I just got back into Scum after not playing for a while, but I'm having trouble throwing the spear. When I hold down LMB, I'm not getting the throw arc and the only option I've found to throw the spear is pressing "G" which gives me no arc and the crosshair disappears. is this a bug, operator error, or new game mechanic? Thanks all.

Correct.
You may have also noticed that there is a new skill "Throwing" now active in the skill-set.
If you plan to be able to throw (if you're hunting with a spear, for instance), you should set that skill at least to beginner.
Else throwing is just a gamble.

There's two kind of throws now:
Hitting "G" will result in a quick throw in the approximate direction of the white dot that's now the crosshair.
If you hold "G", you can target a bit and place the crosshair a bit more precisely before you release "G" and throw.
With a bit of practice you will be almost as good as you've been before with the arc.

So it's basically useless, unless you want to dedicate yourself to being a really good guesser on just where your arc actually is, and where you have to aim (not easy with no aim point, as i'm sure you've noticed) in order to hit something. As with everything else, anything other than a headshot will end up taking more spears than you can carry to kill something, and since spears do jack-all for damage anyway, throwing/spears is an utter waste of time, now. IMO.

Yeah, I wouldn't rely on throwing spears when it comes to fighting puppets.
But they are okay to cull some crows as long as I don't have a decent bow that shoots fast enough for them.

Build a target and practice. I personally love the new system...it so good. It's a way more fluid system. Unfortunately you don't receive exp on the skill right now so you cant train it up.

Well, I just got my answer thanks. I just got back into playing myself, and was having trouble trying to get the arc to come up when throwing. Why would they change it? It was not broken, and worked fine. This is a useless change in my opinion.

It is more skill based vs hand held nonsense now.

It's good as it is now, imo.

It went from being too easy, to way too difficult. Only a few very dedicated players are going to bother spending the time to master invisible throwing arcs and range guessing just so they can hit something with a spear that is way underpowered anyway. Anything less than a head strike, which is very hard at any distance without any aiming aid, is utter crap for damage. Nobody is going to pack around half a dozen spears so they can whittle down a puppet with repetitive body hits, assuming they've mastered the arcane ability to even connect with all of them on a running, bobbing, kangaroo'ing target.

Spears have simply become an utter waste of time for the average player. Bows are far superior in every way, and your first gun of any kind will rightfully make you use your spears for a campfire.
