Yes that's the biggest problem. That would probably cut out half of the users with older hardware.

At the moment switching to UE5 is not possible, as you have said we have a ton of custom code that would need to be redone with the switch to UE5. We will see what the future brings.
People with 2 or even 3 generations old PCs play them, and this games aren't even optimized, because early access.
Cranky, they wouldn't have to go absolutely crazy with all the beauty UE5 offers, and keep it playable for players with 1080 cards and what have you.
Also, since they're aiming for a release on consoles, upgrading would be the right thing to do. UE5 is the current go-to for next gen consoles if your game's on unreal engine.
"" Unreal Engine 5 enables you to deploy projects to Windows PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, macOS, iOS, Android, ARKit, ARCore, OpenXR, SteamVR, Oculus, Linux, and SteamDeck.""
"" With support for Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Xbox Series X, Unreal Engine is ready for next-gen games. Forward compatibility ensures that even if you start in UE4, you can move everything over to UE5 when you are ready.""
"" Now available on Console can also push a game with 30 to 50. Performance boost even on Unreal Engine 5""

Cranky, their custom code is still based on the same engine...
As I said in the 'conspiracy' thread, they just have to have the will to do it and keep their game future-proof, have a better performing foundation, easier tools to work with and less struggling with all the features they still want to add to the game.
Stagnation is death. Times change and you need to move with it or you'll be left behind.
Anyway, no gaslighting or conspiracies intended, I'm just throwing out my thoughts, it's their choice how to handle their game.
Another thread got shut down when I said what LevaOpaki Said...

I'll lock this thread for good. Conspiracy theories won't lead you anywhere.
So I reposted exactly HIS WORDS and xKiCkx
At this point I was just PROVING THAT I SPOKE CORRECTLY that the dev said this!
NOT ME!
I did not misspeak. I did not missqoute
I really don't care anymore!
Here's just me taking the chance to throw out what I couldn't in the other thread anymore due to closing. Let's leave it at that. Cheers. ;)
It's non-trivial slow process multiplied by the amount of custom code you did to any core engine functionality (and the editor tools).
You have stuff that's deprecated, that was moved around to different headers, replaced by another thing, you'll miss this that and the other dependency, and so on and so forth, literally spoogheting your code in the process.
As an example check how long it took doing this in background for Satisfactory, which still had to release the UE5 version under Experimental beta branch.
Note that Gamepires already has massive troubles doing the thing the first time around with their constant refactoring of systems, multiply that with an engine port.. yea it's not really worth it.
Also note that you have folks with literal decade old machines still trying to play this game they owned since forever ago..
For this see the number of HDD related issues, AMD Phenom II cases, etc.
Who knows maybe it'll be a next step after release to help them expand on new platforms but it is 100% not worth it for the game as it is now.
but but.. UE5 better!! *cries in misunderstanding.
idk wht they would even be thinking about that when they are atm having issues with player base already and trying to convince them that the encountersystem is the most complex bit of code they have created so far and its far from finished.
"Yeah , we all hate it, can you pls port it to UE5? Nvr mind about all that custom code, just re-write it...It's been 5 years and I'M LEAVING"
* the typical Steam forum user lately.. it seems.
"* the typical Steam forum user lately.. it seems." yeah right you name it...
Wish you all the best on your way to 1.0 and beyond!
