SCUM

Items in Quick Slots keep greying out.
So I have only been playing for three hours, and I think the game was a waste of money. Every time I place a stone knife or a stone ax into the quick slots, I can use them, but eventually, they grey out, and I am not able to access them anymore. I have to double-click the items to get rid of them and then craft them again. The durability is still in the green, but as soon as I get attacked and press the 3 key, the item doesn't go to the hand, and I am stuck with Malay fighting and eventually die from bleeding out.

Am I missing something?

Wait so do you actually still have the items, its easy to drop things on the ground if there was no inventory space? You say its durability in the green but then you say you have to craft it again? Pls clarify what is happening here are you not able to put the durability green item back into the quick slot or is the item broken and you need to craft a new one?

Okay, when I double-click the items, They don't show up in my inventory or around the ground where I am standing. The durability is still good, but because the items are greyed out, I am unable to move them from one location in my inventory to another. Furthermore, when I press the "3" key while not in my inventory, the weapon will not be equipped. I have it placed into my hands, and when I press the holster key, it goes to the number three quick bar when it works properly. When the weapons grey out, I can't do anything with them in First Person, Third Person mode, or while in the inventory screen.

what do you mean? they should be.
unless you dont have space you should pick things up

what are you trying to put these items into?

wait what condition is your inventory?
explain more about this "greyed out" only time i can think of is when you drop something and its visual thing greys out in the hot bar...
might be visual bug i usually see that when i finish eating a food i had on hot bar and its no longer on me
other than that i cant see why you cant move an item you have on you to another slot

yes, why would you think we have magic powers to teleport things NOT in our inventory to our hands?
whats the issue?

right cause you had space for the items this is normal

because im pretty sure you dropped it. if you have it in your hands and it still is "greyed out" thats a problem but by the sounds of it you keep dropping things by running outta space or not equiping the right item to the right slot. cant equip knives to holster slots
this feature dosnt work from the ground, ONLY when items are physically on you does the hotbar work

if you have item "3" in hotbar in your hands
then pick stuff up and fill the space where item "3" was
then press 2 to pull out weapon
item "3" will usually drop on the ground because you had no space for it

if that made sense.. i hope
(free tip, putting foods with more than one use, on the hotbar allows you to "quickly" eat foods without needing to right click *eat* everytime)

Okay this sentence clearly had a typo in it. you playing stupid and treating it sarcastic isn't helping your cause at all.

Okay, The confusion is that it doesn't disappear from the inventory when you drop something. That is confusing; I don't know why the developers chose that route. Furthermore, when you put something in the Hotbar, that should be its own inventory space separate from all the other inventory slots. Having the Hands and Holster Slot clearly makes holing and dropping mechanics work funky. Also, what is the need for my axe and bow to be indicated in more than one slot on my hot bar while in first and third-person mode?

This game was released in 2018. These inconveniences should have been rectified during development, early access, or after getting feedback. I also get trying to do something new and not wanting to follow the same techniques as predeceasing games. Subnautica was also released in 2018, and just like SCUM, it is a Base building survivor game just as SCUM is. Some mechanics are slightly different because they are based underwater, but the main principles regarding inventory are a lot more intuitive and less confusing. When you drop something in Subnautica, it disappears completely. If there is not enough space, you don't drop something automatically to pick up the new item; you are just unable to pick it up unless you physically go into your inventory and discard things to make room for the new items.

In a lot of ways, Subnautica, released in January of 2018, is more accurate from a survival standpoint than the slightly newer Game SCUM, released in August 2018 mechanically.

Think about it, if you were actually in an environment like the depiction of SCUM, would you accidentally drop a knife when you pick something else up? Realization like this is the basis for most survival games.

It would be more realistic if you had to create a holster for everything, much like you do for the improvised courier backpack. Ie. Knife Hoster, Tool Hoster, Gun Holster, and so forth. Dedicated slots specifically for certain types of tools and weapons where new inventory slots would be displayed on the left, just like the improvised courier backpack. A Knife Icon with just enough space for one knife. Spaces where it is impossible to drop those items unless you manually do so.

But as I mentioned before, this game was released in 2018. The chances of them making these changes or any are slim to none.

Items in inventory slot 1 and slot 2 are left and right shoulder I can't remember which!

The other slots 3 and beyond are items in your inventory some where like the knife in a sheath or boot, pistol in a holster. Etc.

So lets say you had a knife in your boot and the boot health gets damaged to a point to where it looses the room to store the knife. If you pull that knife and use it and then try to put it away it cannot return to the boot (inventory space is reduced) so it will try to go into your inventory somewhere. If it has no place to go it will drop on the ground---

---grey out because it is no longer on you!

thats as far as im aware a visual bug
or
a choice because player kept asking for a way to tell if they dropped items
if you see you have a greyed out item you know you dropped it
but i dont think it is, i think its a minor QOL if anything

i dont think so. thats part of the inventory management..
games not like rust in that sense

theres alot of weird choices the devs make... but this one im not 100% on the reason

id Guess its something to do with having multiable ways of doing actions in different screens and/or ways to show what you have on you...
there were people at one point complaining there should be a way to tell when you dropped something this for all i know could be part of that

:bleach:this is where i get smart....:raft_bruce::sacrificed:

did you miss the many many "Early Access" banners?
the loading screens?
its still not left EA. although i agree theres alot left to be done...
but i think jagex is making them rush..
if you ask me i would say theres 2 more years left to finish. but eh idk what they have for time line,

but also on the inventory topic.

base building is part of scum. not really a "main" thing..
i would say base building/locks/getting raided has lots to be desired in scum at the moment ..
i like to think of scum as a bunch of games and genres and none of them at the same time
amorphous blob if you will, alot of people will dislike that
but thats what happens when you cram a whole lotta variety in one game

i agree it should be like that
but there were bunch of people asking for "alerts" or the little words to pop up saying "i dropped item"
this for all i know could be the happy middle the devs hit
devs might say otherwise but i THINK its just a visual bug a REALLY low priority Qol

it drops it from your hand. not your inventory.
you took axe out of your inventory and you filled that space up with other items.
the axe is still in your hands UNTIL you put something else in your hands
IF there is room your axe will go back into your inventory no issues.
if you filled the space where your axe is supposed to go the axe gets dropped.
no magic slots here.. this isnt that hard, is it? the soloution is get more inventory space.

if your inventory is full yes
you drop what you have in your hands
this comes in handy when trying to grab something quickly such as when getting shot by mechs or chased by puppets and not have to fiddle in the TAB menus just to pick something up it just takes getting used to and remembering to keep space for items IN your hands.

if you remember to save space you will automaticly put items back into your bag when picking something up:roll:

I get damage and everything but nothing was damaged before I got attacked. I covered what the confusion was before your comment, so you should know that the problem was resolved. The thread evolved at that point to why those particular mechanics are so problematic and if they were realistic or not while they were not damaged. The damage causing less storage depending on how much damage is clear and cut clean.

I just started playing 2 days ago.

No I covered that in one of my more recent comment. The fact that it was grayed out was causing some confusion. All other games that I have played to date, when you drop an item it doesn't show up at all, it's just gone. I know now that the grayed out image is just a place marker for what used to be there. That is what the confusion was about.
