On topic- I think it's the same as some of the veggies not being listed as veggies for whatever reason.
1: You can eat them, but they don't provide much in the way of nutrition because your body can't absorb them as well.
2: Potatoes can actually be toxic if green, due to a high concentration of lectins and solanine.
1: Solanine is only irritable in large quantities and only toxic in even larger. A 200 lb person would need to eat 20 lbs of potatoes, in one serving, with skin on to induce acute symptoms. Therefore in regards to a fresh out of the ground potato there is no reasoning that justifies food repulsion. Things nobody cared to know vol 4.
