We're looking into ways to improve cooking and make it a fun experience so any feedback is most welcome!
i like and enjoy the cooking feature, the implementation of books for recipes was good idea, and i would like to see this happen across all the crafting aspects with more work benches added,
but for cooking it would be nice to see more recopies added to take advantage of all food available,
maybe a work table/crafting bench that we add ingredients to, then craft the item and then the finished product is place on to the cooking device. also have the book have their own slots on the craft bench so we dont need to carry them
ingredients added need to influence the end product more instead of being able to add any of the appropriate items but always get the same result eg used to be each piece of meat or fish would give certain increase to a metabolism stat such as vitamins where now you grill each but get the same grilled meat.
Also we need more options to cook more on a fire along with some kind of hiking cook method so we can cook while travelling the map also ovens we can have in modular bases both improvised and loot able. eg camp ovens and tripods, hiking stoves, pot belly stoves
Hello,
It would be very nice, to see a folding camping oven for baking :-) This one would sit nicely on the BBQ grid and Gas Stove:

A craftable makeshift version from 10 Metal Scrap and 6 Screws would be also nice and realistic, because the principle is very simple
I also would like to see, that some incredients ( like animal fat ) could use as a substitute for plant oil. Same with the icing sugar which is the same as normal sugar just a finer grind. Could use as substitute 1 by 1
Peace
I noticed only that there aren't any nutrition stats shown for meals when you cooked them. It only shows the exhaustion recovery stats.
Also, it is unclear when it's time to take the food off the heat source, in order to make a good meal. It often gives me "poorly cooked", even tho the loading bar was green.
It would be better, if the loading bar does not exist and you have to look at the actual food, to see if it's done or still raw.
cooked food has nutrition infos when i have cooked it, no problem ..
the problem is it loses nutrition over time and / or when put it in a box and dont take it with you
and it loses nutrition when i log out
dont know if its just the info thats missing (i dont think so, as eating them brings no benefit), or if the nutrition is gone at all .. but its a problem
Partial Processing: This involves taking raw ingredients and preparing them to be directly edible. For example, you can cook various foods like a whole animal, specific parts of an animal, or items like flour or rice. You can also preserve or smoke meat, creating partial products that are ready for consumption.
Combinations for Nutrient and Buff Enhancement: This would be more complex cooking where you combine different ingredients to create dishes with enhanced nutritional value and unique buffs. The combinations should be flexible and allow players to experiment with various ingredients to create different dishes, providing both nourishment and beneficial effects.
Your ideas could provide a more versatile and engaging cooking system in the game, allowing players to experiment with different recipes and culinary creations.
Most annoying bug for me is how you can't always see the micro-nutrients in the finished product, you will when it's first made, but sometimes after it goes into storage you can't see all the details.
As far as tweaking goes, I think of the mushroom pasta I recently made, I can't finish one portion from an empty stomach without almost exploding.
Bugs, like when you are watching the progress of an item and the items just vanish from view. Really annoying on short cook times when your window to retrieve is very short.
Seems to me there is a lot of work on the cooking system that needs to wait for a more fleshed out nutrition system as well.
Sort of on topic, I would like to see the availability of ingredients from the trader nerfed hard, as you simply don't need to forage at all to make the better dishes. For now, for testing purposes it makes sense, but eventually needing to make the effort to find ingredients to make dishes that are truly worth it is what I would personally enjoy. Makes for more of a survival atmosphere. The trader is a whole other conversation.
On the topic of finding ingredients, does anyone know where if at all the turkey tail or "tree" mushrooms" that are for sale at the trader can be found in the wild?
This is the key issue – you can eat anything raw without any harm, especially after playing for a while and your character's attributes are relatively high! It won't cause any diseases or aftereffects, so cooking is completely useless!
Even meat can be....
My wife makes a beef jerky that will make your mouth water and it does not get cooked at all just sits out a dries....
Can you make recipes work differently? Having to have them in my bag is a little annoying. Maybe make it consumable a couple of times so if I bring one home me and my buddies can all "use" it. Or make it so I can put it on the flag to share recipes with my squad :). Might be cool to be able to open a flag to see enhancements for the base and see recipe slots so we know there's books to find and what we have :D.
I used to go to hunt for some of those yellow ones that you also see in this game for my grandma to cook for the family.
Yes the game is advertised for its realism, and that sort of thing could be part of it but its just too much, aint it? Separating spoiled meat from fresh looking meat when you find fresh-ish remains of an animal?
Instead theres direct need for cooking.
